DEVASTATION :: 180 CPC Customs Destroyed - What NOT To Do (1 Viewer)

Terrible story Andrew. But hopefully you scored with the girlfriend.

Give it time. You will be back chipping in no time. I will be happy to bring over my chips if you want when we play at your place. Just let me know.(y)

Sorry about this Andrew,
I ve experienced some chips destruction with ASM as Jim @TheChipRoom mentionned and also ... Paulson in water under ... Sun a couple of hours...

Sometimes it just happens.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about this.

I understand that any clay chip will warp if the temperature is high enough. Otherwise we wouldn't have numerous threads about how to flatten chips.

My rule of thumb: Don't leave chips in an environment that would be unsuitable for an infant.

I lost some bcc chips in a similar way when I was living out in Vegas, although the temperature was a bit higher(115 ish)

Now I keep all of my chips in the AC out in shelves out of the sun. For something so tough at 72 degrees, they are remarkably fragile when that changes.

Expensive lesson but at least they are fully replaceable - nothing that a few hundred dollars can't fix. It could have been far worse if they were a rare casino set.

For sure. And I still have 200 healthy quarters for Thursday's game.

Expensive / valuable lesson indeed. And as you said, it could have been way worse. If these were my SDPM $25s, I'd be about ready to jump off the roof. :D

My deepest condolences!
Really, if I'm reading this right, it's the GFs fault. Making you help her with dinner, and generally distracting you, while you should be focused on chipping. ;)

j/k
Also, if you need me to bring anything for Thursday night, let me know.

Always making lemonade...
  • This thread and the eventual pics may save countless chips in the future.
  • Rumble right around the corner - chippers are the greatest support group right now.
  • Award a stack of the most misshapen, or welded together chips to the player at the Rumble that goes the furthest on tilt. It will be called the "meltdown award". You have enough prizes for the next 9 rumbles!
I would not be surprised if @David Spragg were to waive the minimum order to get replacements. I doubt he could save you on price, but if he has the mold in production, it might not hurt to ask. He seems pretty cool that way.

Just sent an email to him - waiting to hear back.

And I LOVE the Rumble trophy idea!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahaaaa

Definitely a " Well that sucks" moment.

Cant believe that sicko @jbutler didn't ask for pictures of the carnage.

Are there any?

Another warning. Heat and definitely sunlight destroys clay chips. Also, some chips do not respond to cleaning very well. ASM chips are much softer than Paulson chips. If you try and clean them, DO NOT soak them. They turn to mush. Trust me on this one. I have lost several thousand chips in that "experiment".

Been there. Done that.

I'm sorry for your loss.

good news you can buy more, i did notice when i left a sample set of them on my desk, the sun did fade them...did not get hot enough to melt or warp

this just reminded me of an event way way back in the day while in LA, i bought a bootleg copy of Hendrix Live at the LA Forum....played the hell out of it, passed out one nite listing to it and woke up to the sun beaming down on my turntable and my vinyl looked like big black potato chip sitting on the turntable....aaagggghhhhh...still have it, its a two record set and i just checked eBay and i can grab one for $80....but dam that pissed me off, still today, many years later......go buy another set while you can before they are $80 a chip......:p

Sounds like we need a fundraiser to recoup Andrews losses!

I'll shoot a fiver his way!
#takeCareOfThyChipBrothers

I have 20x replacement quarters. Not sure if they are the same color combo as his, though.

I appreciate all the offers guys. I really do.

I emailed David Spragg, but not much he can do on price, and I still have to hit the 300 min. At this point, I'd just be happy finding someone to go in on another GB to snap up the extra 120 I need to close out another order. Quarters are the standard Peacock/Yellow... my nickels were unique though. :(

*sigh*

Feeling better. Feeling better.

PS: Haven't had time to take pics of the disaster yet. I'll get them soon, though!

Pry 'em apart and put them in play. Yours will be the most unique (and extra handmade/homemade) set on the planet. Certainly won't be anybody slipping chips into your game. :)(y)

First of all I'm so sorry, I know that felt like a gut punch.

Second I like the idea of melting them all together and making it some sort of trophy! At least get a laugh out of your loss!

Crappy situation man, everything will be ok though.

Why not just see if anyone is selling theirs?
