Explain the Wynn Chip Hype to Me Like I'm a 4 Year Old (2 Viewers)

If you buy chips here for less than fair market value and you sell them for the same price, you're out nothing, and you've spread around some good will. If good will is worthless to you, good luck to you.

Did you read the part where I lost money selling my Horseshoe chips. I'm a goddamn Saint.

Fortunately, for those of you who hate me, I will have finally reached chip set zen once my recent purchases arrive in the mail (The Winner Club set and the final piece to my Nevada Lodge set). I'll be posting final pics of them to my keeper thread at some point, but my buying heydays have come to an end. I'm quite content with the keeper sets I've put together. I've mostly transitioned to TRK singles now.

This fact will forever be ignored. Perception is reality around here, don't you know? And that means YOU SIR have profited from the holy Chip Room! It also apparently means that I flip member listings...

I don't flip chips from member-to-member sales. Feel free to go through all of my past chip sales and find me even one sale where I bought chips from another member and resold them for a profit

I've definitely received these words of wisdom many times. Several chippers that I'm on good terms with remind me every week. I'm just not one to give into bullying though. Never have been. If someone wants to shit on me, I'm going to shit right back. And on a site with this many assholes, you can imagine there's a whole lot of shitting that goes down.

As mentioned before, I've been bullied on this site too, but there are either things one can do than surrender or fight. I have decided to ignore. There are people whom I don't have time or consideration for to argue with back and forth to try to make a point, as logical as it may be. For all of us who have been online for many many many years, we all know the reality of idiots sitting behind a keyboard and typing away. That will never change. Some communities have fewer, some have more. I've generally come to realize PCF has more good people with good intentions (and yes, they are ALL after building the best chip collection while spending the least amount of money, hence the ferocious fight over craigslist/Letgo listings). You choose your battles.

You may recall that I am also a self proclaimed audiophile. I've lost count with how many times I've fallen in and out of love with a pair of speakers or an integrated amplifier. I'd like to think that my current setup will be my last but it's not. It never ends and neither will this thread.

That said I will NEVER EVER sell my Wynn Charity Chips! Those chips on the bottom...I will likely sell in next week or so.

Bergs is a classic example. He doesn't give a fuck about the Wynn chips one way or the other. He never buys or sells chips here either. Yet here he is with nothing better to do than show up for the "shit on Rainman" show. (y)

I don't care about the Wynn chips, and I buy/sell VERY rarely but I do on occasion. I weighed in here because, even though I know the perception is that I'm just a contrarian asshole, I actually do care about the community. I made the same argument at Chiptalk 3-4 years ago that I'm making here regarding flippers.

So you're the guy that wrecked Chiptalk. Shocking!

Classic example of the hypocrisy around here... I get berated for flipping chips purchased by vendors (100% fair game). Meanwhile, the first person to 'like' this post has an active sale thread where he is openly flipping chips that he just bought from a member-to-member sale a week earlier. Yet not a single person here criticizes him or calls him out for it. Just imagine if that were me, how much shit I'd get for it! :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

If you're looking for examples of people exploiting this community and your first target is @links_slayer then you're a bigger moron than anyone could have imagined.

Sh*&^%ing all over PCF, outing people, and pointing fingers aren't going to justify what you have said or done, or are being accused of having done. I hope you realize that. Take a deep breath. Step away from the keyboard for a few hours or maybe a day. It will help.

nothing more to say in this thread...

although it might be a good idea not to respond to any further provocative posts. it just seems like baiting for an argument...

Crazy stuff. I said long ago all that really needed to be said. Not gonna look it up, but it went something along the lines of this:

"RT is a decent guy, views the chip market differently than most (but not all) of the people here on PCF, and lacks some online social skills that have made his life here harder than it needed (or needs) to be."

Pretty much end of story. Anything else is either mouth-running or piling on. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.... :)

Yep. Like I said. I'm a giant asshole.

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback everyone! (y)

I'm done here for now. But I'll leave you with this...

I'm more than happy with being the proud owner of what I consider to be the greatest tourney set of all time, and I couldn't give two shits about whether you like them or not.

When I bought my Wynn set, I had to pay almost $8k for it. It came out to $4.35 per chip, and a lot of people shit on me for paying those prices. It was a huge gamble on my part because I only wanted/needed about a third of them, and would have to try to find buyers for the rest. They said I was foolish and that I overpaid, that they weren't even Paulsons, that they weren't even from a real casino... Blah blah blah. I even remember people actually arguing with me until they were blue in the face when I said "call them whatever you want, but I guarantee that the Wynn wrote off the cost of these chips on their tax return".

I spent a lot of time developing my chip pricing database and algorithm, and when I offered it to the community (free of charge mind you), I got absolutely shit on for that too, and in a big way (and apparently bergs still won't let it die!). Name calling from every direction and bullying to the nth degree. It was actually pretty funny from my viewpoint. Needless to say, I decided to keep it for myself, and I trusted it's output over ALL the feedback I was getting from PCFers when it told me the Wynn chips were worth more than I was getting them for. I gambled $8k on these chips with my algorithm that many of you guys shit on, and it paid off in spades when I got this dream set for free. So again, excuse me while I walk around with both of my middle fingers in the air at those of you who've been shitting on me since day one while I leverage the work I've put in to acquire some nice sets.

Like I said... I've now reached chip zen. Thanks in large part to my "shitty" pricing algorithm that I wanted to offer to the community free of charge (actually, I would have lost money hosting it).

Have fun with your secret handshake friends though! You're all swell! (y)

As I have said before, I won't pay more than $3/chip for ANY chip that I like.
Have you been at this long? If not, I respect your resolve. But it doesn't mean as much if you've been collecting poker chips for a while, and you have some great sets that you were able to buy at much cheaper prices than stuff is selling fr, today.
Yeah, there are plenty of chips out there, and some of them are good chips at a decent price. The fun nite chips, both Paulson and BCC, are a good example of good chips you can get in the buck a chip neighborhood. But if you want GOOD chips - THC, shaped inlay, heavy ass leaded chips, well you're gonna pay A LOT of money, if you can find them.
So I admire your resolve. But I came to this party late. And if I want GOOD chips, I'm not sure I can afford that kind of resolve.

I am stubborn. Good researcher. And don't have the expectations of the top-chippers. I will settle for very good chips (and not the best) at a reasonable price, as opposed to the best chips for a left kidney. Each to their own. (y)

I started chipping after you did, and I'd have to say that @kk405 is going about it the right way. I now have a full set of mint THC paulsons, with shaped inlays, from 0.50 to 100s (~800 chips). The max. price I paid for any denom. was $3/chip, and most were much less than this.

I live in Manhattan. Lots of trash being dumped every night. I can always try to find a few chips on Park Ave if I decide to hunt aggressively and keep my cost below $3/chip. Keeping an eye for a Le Noir and PCA set. I know...wishful thinking...but we can all dream :D

You're a fucking idiot. If you had been around for longer than a cup of coffee and a Danish, you'd know that Ten (the site proprietor) killed the site by a) charging for premium features and b) not correcting technical problems and outages with the site and pretty much just ignoring it once he had everyone's money. The members - all of us, particularly those of that paid $200 for a full lifetime subscription - got screwed.

Or longer. Days. Weeks. Months would be fine too.

So you don't buy chips here or sell chips here but feel it's your duty to police this site. In particular a rule about flipping chips that doesn't even exist. Classy! You're an asset to the community.

I do enjoy seeing picture of everyone's magnificent chip sets. I even participated in @RainmanTrail recent raffle (awesome chips and excited about what I could possibly get for $64!). Hopefully we can bring this discussion back to a more civil level.

Welcome to PCF. Let me explain a few things for you, seeing as how you're new. I usually don't do this for people with less than 250 posts, or for people that conceive communication as pointing, gesticulating wildly, and grunting like a pregnant rhino, but I'll make an exception on both points in your case.

1) You don't need to buy or sell chips to have an opinion, be interesting in voicing it, and want to look out for the community here. I'm sorry if I shattered the dearly held illusion that you must have a certain number of transactions before being validated as a member of the community.

2) There is no rule against flipping, that's true. But - flipping hurts the community because it artificially drives up prices. It's why Jim and other vendors won't sell to known flippers, and it's why people like me speak up about it.

3) If you flip, nobody can technically stop you, but don't expect it to be comfortable.

4) This is primarily a hobbyist site. If you want to make money off the other members here, no problem, but open up a vendor account and do it properly.

Eagerly awaiting the next pearls of wisdom that you share with us. If you need me to define what a flip is for you, or if it's easier when I use monosyllabic words let me know and perhaps we can just exchange PMs.
