Game of Thrones (HBO Series - NO BOOK SPOILERS) (7 Viewers)

I'm not asking for much really. Simply for things to make somewhat sense given a characters story line. If it turns out that Arya was not stabbed in the manner it appeared, yes that would change my opinion.

I agree with you that show seems rushed at this point.

If I had to endure everything that Arya endured just to get to Braavos, and then decided it was time to go home... Id probably book the first class cabin as well. So maybe not so out of character.

I think she needs to remain in Braavos so she can connect with Samwell Tarly

So who is Arya?...

1. What reason has Arya got to think that she'd be a target? The impression she has been given is do what we ask or leave. She has decided to leave.

2. Like the writing or not, that's how real life is. Not everything in life is perfect, and IMO the show and story go to great lengths to show us this also. Her story is pointless if she dies? Then so is Robb's and Caitlyn Starks.

3. Jaquan owes her nothing. He traded his life to help her escape Harrenhall.

4. IMO it's more likely she went to the Mummers for help and one of them dressed up as her to book the passage so she could remain hidden.

5. The Hounds return has been theorized for some time. My guess he becomes a wandering badass and goes on to protect the innocent (and hopefully gets to Kingslanding and kills the Mountatin)

6. I actually feel like this season is slow. Considering it's the second to last season it feels like there heaps of shit left to happen.

I think Ohio is upset because for the first 3-4 seasons the show has been pretty damned good. But, like the books has been on a steady decline in quality. It definitely feels like this season they've rushed the story along to push certain characters together. And with all the fake-out dead, oh no, NOT dead stuff that's been popping up I think it's a bit too much as well.

So while I can't speak for Ohio, I think I understand where he's coming from. A place of original passion for the show, now faced with great disappointment in the direction it's heading.

There are still moments of greatness mixed in (queen of thorns, fan-freaking-tastic!) but overall the quality has diminished. I'm just hoping this is the case in the end:

I agree with What your saying about the the show runners forcing things a bit and I think telegraphing their punches. I also believe that this is because they are now playing without the safety net of the source material, and that the current pace is more in line with what the casual fan wants to see.

When I was reading Ohio's comments, I interpreted them more along the lines of -this sucks because nothing is happening i.e. . the play scene was dragging on too long, too much training, too much talking... Basically saying the writing is bad, because nothing big is happening. Maybe I misinterpreted his comments.

I dunno, they had source material for Dorne which could've been spectacular and they seriously mucked that up.

As for casual fans of GoT, is that really a thing? I thought we were all pretty rabid.

I actually enjoyed the play, yeah it was a bit lengthy but entertaining nonetheless.

But this season we've had The Mountain back from near death, Snow, Benjen and The Hound back from death. Just seems like a bit much to do that, and with the possibility of another "dead" person reappearing soon amongst the Brotherhood w/o Banners, it's just piling on to the point of ridiculousness. Especially for a series that has drawn in such a rabid fan base because NO ONE was safe, and characters you thought were main characters were getting the ax here and there. Now everyone's just being revived and it feels.............cheap, overdone.

The whole Arya storyline, unless it takes some crazy twist/turn, just seems to be a bit pointless as well with all the faceless training only to turn her back on it.

The Lannister and Tyrrel forces ready to rumble with the Faith Militant and give us the slaughter we've all been wanting, only to wind up with Tommen becoming a fanatic and Margery pretending.

Khaleesi on her dragon giving a lame speech and somehow riling up all the Dothraki with it, a patriarchal society that somehow decided overnight to bow to her.

I could go on and on, but the end result is I'm extremely let down by this season, it's been the worst overall for me and I'm just sticking with it for the few bright glimmers that will be sprinkled amongst the garbage that is likely to follow.

I can only hope The Night King wins.

Maybe we should split this into two threads: GoT Yay! For fanboys like myself who just enjoy one of the greatest shows of all time and are tired of people picking nits about anything that doesn't align with their vision of a perfect show, and GoT Grrrrr Martin Blows Donkeys for those who just like to complain about everything, and are tired of people blindly supporting an obviously flawed series.

I think you're misunderstanding. At least from my perspective, I fucking LOVE game of thrones, the Red Wedding was amazeballs and I enjoyed the first three books greatly, the latter ones less so.

Just because I'm not liking most of Season 6 doesn't mean I hate the series or don't find any joy in parts of it. The first three seasons were fantastic, the battle at Hardhome last season really set a bar that I was hoping would continue with this season, but it's all just falling flat.

There wasn't really much source material for the Hardhome Massacre, but they still blew it out of the park, just a non-stop fucking thrill ride. Now this season we've got Tyrion and Varys taking strolls together waxing poetic. I also found the Hodor "reveal" incredibly lame.

However, Queen of Thorns, that 10 year old girl squaring off against Sansa, Bronn's one-liners, etc. have been great. There are diamonds to be found amongst the coal, you just need to sift through a lot of coal to get there.

Arya was told by what's -his-face she had one more chance to assassinate whatsherface or she would be...ya know whacked. I believe that was in last week's episode. He also told the other whatshername to kill Arya but not to let her suffer.

Something that has always bothered me books vs show is that in the books Arya is basically a stone cold killer. She has done all that was asked and never baulked at it, the only mistakes she made were killing people who weren't chosen by the many faced God.

I think both stories will head in the same direction with book having Arya kicked out rather than leaving as the show has told it.

(HBO Series - NO BOOK SPOILERS)

Stocky! You just ruined the entire series for me. I can't watch any more. :ROFLMAO:

Of course, I'm just messin with ya.

I wouldn't of said anything if her story hadn't changed so much :) but atleast I don't know what happens next anymore.

Actually, I should've reversed my idea. Arya is trying to escape The Waif, and Jaquen is barring the door to help her make her escape, and then after she's out of the scene he pulls off his face to reveal Hodors face, YES!

Yes, I think most avid show watchers are casual fans, and the majority of them need cliff notes or a book reader to explain who is who, and what is really going on. Still says something about the quality of the show, that so many people enjoy it, even if they can only follow 50% of the plot.

To say that the Hound and Benjen were brought back from death, is a bit much, but I understand your point. My point is, that they need to be brought back at some point, and if they pushed everything until next season, it would be far worse. The fact that the Hound just appears and has found comfort amongst a religious group just as His brother is about to wage war against the High Sparrow, is what I mean by telegraphing their punches. I think it could have been done much better, if they had more runway and fewer story lines to converge in a limited number of remaining episodes.

If you don't like this season, Im sure the next will be even worse for you, as it will be more about moving the pieces and satiating the viewers with the scenes that they all want to see, rather than the depth that we saw in the first 3-4 seasons.
