Two Pair
The best non-wild-card game to come out of our home game group in 25 years is called "Dwight" after it's inventor's nickname (not me!)
The name is a long story in itself.
In my opinion, it is one of the best poker games ever.
It combines Stud, draw and flop games.
Here is how it is played. Can be played limit or PL. (Copyright Asian Bino, for Dwight)
RULES for DWIGHT Poker
--------------------------------------------------------------
4 down and 1 up to everyone. 2 common cards on table face down.
High upcard bets.
Now, you can draw. Exchange 0-5 cards. If you throw away your up card, 1 replacement comes UP. High upcard bets.
1 common card is flipped. Best 2 cards showing bets.
2nd common card flipped. Best 3 cards showing bets.
Showdown if necessary.
Variants:
"Crazy Dwight" You are not allowed to discard your upcard. ("Married" to your upcard.)
"Dwight Overexposed" 3 down and 2 upcards on the deal. Extra round of betting after 1st upcard. (This may be better than original. More info)
And for you loonies:
" Follow the Queen-Dwight"
Played 'Overexposed' style, Queens AND the card after any upcard queen are wild. A second up-queen cancels the first wildcard. Sometimes, a player will change his whole hand if the previous player drew a queen on HIS last upcard, and the player knows he is getting a wild card. Usually played split pot with Best natural and Wild hand winning half.
If the last card dealt up is a queen, the immediately previous upcard is wild. Ad nauseum.
