This is what 12 hours of playing blackjack and bribing dealers looks like.

Talking about cutting your trip short... how long did it take you guys to harvest those lots?
I'm trying to come up with a plan for a harvesting trip at the end of the year with @Mr_Y3RAC and I'd like to know what timespan might be needed to get what we want.

I know this depends very much on luck at the cage as well, but some roundabout numbers of days / hours spent would be awesome.

Yes, I'm talking about you and your crappy plastic chips @ Westspiel Casinos!

The latest harvesting trip @WhiteMamba1646 and I went in took 3+ days of pretty dedicated harvesting work. When we went, a lot of Vegas was still closing down on weekdays so we didn’t have much of a choice even if we wanted to harvest longer. Hopefully by the time you go, Vegas will be even closer to being back to normal but we basically just had the weekend to harvest.

To get my golden nugget set took three trips of several hours each trip. I think the aria set took two visits. I got almost nothing from the cage. I’ve never had good luck getting chips from the cage. My harvest was almost all from playing. @WhiteMamba1646 got some of his chips from the cage at Aria (and he got a rack of my twos from the poker room manager). But a lot of his were from playing as well.

A lot of the difficulty depends on the chips you are targeting. I got a lot of my chips from the craps table. If you can find a $10 table, betting $10 on the 5 and 9 and $12 on the 6 and 8 gets you $14 every time any of those numbers hit and can get a lot of ones into your pocket. But if the table limit is $15 or $25, harvesting from craps is much more difficult, as you get less $1s each time your number hits. If the casino has a poker room and has a limit game, it’s pretty easy to get $1s. Just buy in deep, sort the good ones from your buy in and pocket them before sitting down. And then sort all the good ones from each pot you win and pocket those as well. When you cash out just cash out worn chips.

If your target doesn’t have a $10 craps table or a poker room with limit poker, and has limited hours, it’s way harder (see, e.g., Circus Circus).

What chips are you targeting?

Harvesting vegas is a grind. A ton of walking. bring a bag pack, and a lot of energy. I park at the PH (free parking, great location) and walk back and forth to each poker room on the strip. in about a 9 hour session I can grab a dozen or so racks. But its all hit or miss. I can walk like half a mile just to get stiffed at the cage. Or get lucky and walk out with three or four racks. I personally try as hard as I can not to play while grabbing chips because this is strictly a side hustle for me. absolutely no sense in risking even minimum bets while trying to get dollar chips I hope to sell for like $1.50. And by the time I'm done grabbing chips I'm too tired to gamble. So its like a win/win. Cuz I'm negative EV at any table in a casino. lol.

That is great info, thank you!
I didn't know you could just take chips off the table between hands in limit poker. I'm pretty sure it's at least frowned upon in no limit.

Never played craps, but it seems to be a nice harvesting opportunity. Gonna keep that in mind.

I'm still working on my flamingo set, so I'll be hitting those $1s with full force.
I've been buying 200 of @WhiteMamba1646 s recent flamingo reject pile but I'd like to get my set to excellent+ condition only at some point.

Other than that golden nugget $1s ballys $5s and Aria $20s would be awesome to have as a live mixed house mold set.

@Mr_Y3RAC is planning to harvest an Aria limit set.

Besides those main targets we'll try to get some of the more elusive stuff like golden nugget $2s and circus circus, Paris and sam's Town $1s. We hope to go at a time when the latter received a fresh batch of chips to get them in good condition. We're allowed to dream, right?

Taking chips off the table is frowned on even in limit. So you have to be sly. A few chips at a time from pots you won. And stay deep. Buy in for more if your stack starts to get shallow and generally no one will care even if they see you taking chips off the table.

Most of the chips you want are probably attainable. Mixed set would be awesome. There aren’t a lot of minty nugget $1s in circulation though. You might consider harrahs instead if it opens back up.

It took quite a while to end up with a rack of sharp Bally’s $5s but they are in circulation. Sam’s Town’s poker room was still closed when we went. Hopefully it opens back up before your trip. Paris is just ridiculous. The cashier told me I had to get chips from the floor. The floor told me I had to go to the cashier. Eventually the pit boss came over and demanded my drivers license and held it for a few minutes before making change for my $20....with three fives and five $1s and telling me that was the max I could have. I’m glad I already have my Paris $1s because they are the most anti-harvest casino on the strip. But most of what you want should be attainable. Good luck!

I would never take chips off a table in a poker game. Unless you are leaving. Just buy into a 3-6 game for like two or three racks. Take your seat. Play an orbit or two. Then dump the chips in your bag and say, seat open. And walk out the door.

I've gotten that run around like twenty times...."get your chips at the tables" then tables..."get your chips at the cage" lol.

Wow! Impressive. This was just Over the course of a weekend?!!!

Yes! Pandemic has been good for harvesting!

Just curious, I haven't been to Greektown since March 2020 (pre- pandemic) and the paigow table had been changed to no commission at that time.
I’m just a bit embarrassed at what I tipped to get them. Crazy, maybe unprecedented, given it’s Greektown but the 70 yr+ nice lady at the cage made It happen.

Very meager crop from a pretty experienced harvester this go around. Trip was Monday PM -Thusday Noon.

Paris - Very difficult harvest conditions. A lot fewer tables open & higher mins than when I went in July & October. I would estimate only 20-30% of tables actually open, even during the evening. Most mins $25. Some games like 3-card poker, Mississippi Stud or Let it Ride had $15 mins. Neither of the Big Wheels were ever open. There was only 1 craps table open the entire time that I was there. Most of the time is was $25 min. Once on Wednesday during the day, I saw a $15 min. One evening, it was a $50 min. :wow: Thursday morning at 8am I came down & it was $10 min.:D

Ballys - Poker Room is now open 24/7. Floor told me this was as of last week. If you are looking for Ballys chips, this is a tremendous help.

Flamingo - Poker Room is still only open: Thurs PM - Mon AM. I was planning on harvesting some $5s & $1s, but came at the wrong time to make that happen. Flamingo is doing a major reorg of their casino floor. When I got there on Tues AM, 50-60% of the table games were gone & barriers were erected. Cage told me that he was told that it would be a 4 week project. Not sure what they are doing or why.

Mohegan Sun at Virgin - Looks exactly like the Hard Rock, minus the cool Rock memorabilia & vibe. I see no reason for this place to exist. I was there Monday at 8pm. There were a "handful" of older slot players and no one was playing at any of their table games. Cage told me to go blow, but a friendly BJ dealer was happy to let me buy a couple of $1s.

The Pass - Cage told me she could only sell 5 x $1s & 1 x $5. No $0.50s. There was just 1 x $10 BJ table going Monday around 8pm-9pm. Was told that craps is only open on the weekends. Pit boss told me they will not sell and $0.50 chips, but was cool about it. He told me to sit at the BJ table & buy-in for $20. He told the dealer I wanted 2 x $0.50 chips as part of my buy-in. Deal gave me the chips & like an idiot, I asked the the pit boss "now what?" He smiled and said, "now you get up and go cash in your $1s & $5s." Duh.

On a scale of really simple to unobtanium, how difficult is it to harvest a couple of racks of NYNY THC $1's? I imagine not easy as they don't have a poker room.

It’s doable (I got three racks out of there a couple years ago) but closer to the unobtainable end of the spectrum than the really simple end. Most of mine were from the craps table. If you can visit when a $10 table is running, betting $10 on the 5 and 9 and $12 on the 6 and 8 gets you $14 (aka four $1s) every time any of those numbers is hit. Just keep dropping good ones into your pocket and bet/tip with bad ones and you can get a decent harvest. I think my 300 or so chips took maybe five sessions over two or three trips.

You can also walk around and ask for change. But that’ll just get you 5-10 ones at a time.

It’s not easy or quick. But if you are dedicated you can get chips out of there. Much easier than circus circus or even Paris, in my opinion.

Thank you for the insight. Do you happen to remember if they have a $1 wheel? That's probably the best (and cheapest) way outside of the craps table.

This is incredible work. Live fracs harvested by the barrel! And Greektown fracs are beauties for sure. Condition looks great too. Impressive.
Thanks! You’re the reason I drove downtown and made it happen. After I bought some fracs from you @BirdCage I just had to finish out the rack.

Without poker rooms, trying to harvest nowadays directly off of table games is an extremely pricey endeavor, particularly if u're not winning. I'd rather not say how much was gambled away while attempting to pocket these :( :x

And definitely Good Luck trying to hunt these down. The Hot Stamps are mixed in with plastics & Giant inlay RHCs, unfortunately all three versions are live and in the dealers' trays but the new Hot Stamp $1s are few and far between.
