Hate for $25 denom (1 Viewer)

Won't be adding much with my comments but I don't like 25s either. Just because I'm not a fan of the green colour and I haven't found a green chip that I like but for the dunes 25$.
Maybe not a $25... but my favorite chip of all time!

And they are over 30 years old! So...

Lol!

Neither of my local casinos uses $25s at the poker tables. Lots of $5s, a few $1s if you're lucky, and then color up to $100s if desired

Casinos have effectively unlimited numbers of $5 chips. If you want to operate like your casino and have the funds to do so, then buy as much as you want.

Just because a casino can do it, doesn't mean a home game should.

All true. Just like those limit sets I see posted here, from people who don't even host a limit game :wtf:.

(Waits patiently for a comment about getting a tetanus shot...)
Is that a Paulson house mold? Or is it some non-clay material?

Can’t say I hate them but they’re usually the ones I like the less in most sets, and I’m a proud member of the $20 team.
Thanks for posting a few nice ones ;)

Like the title says, I think $25 chips tend to be the ugliest and I get really uncomfortable if I have an odd number of them in my stack. Even having multiples of 2 rather than 4 makes me a little uneasy. With that being said how many of you think $25 denoms are necessary for a game (mostly 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, 2/5 stakes)? Considering a $1x100, $5x700, $100x180, $500x20 spread for 1/1 through 2/5. Or do I just have crazy OCD since I like to think in $100 multiples?

1) Not all $25s are green, or whatever color is tilting you

2) There are many shades of green, and plenty of nice green chips

you're going to get a kick out of this, but my OCD allows only casino standard denoms with white/red/green/black/purple. I despise California colors
Does that hurt?

I remember one of the televised streams from a Cali casino - either Live at the Bike or Hustler Casino live -- that had a 'lower stakes' game either $5/10 or something like that -- used $5 and $100 chips, with no (or few) $25s on the table. But I think each player probably had a rack of $5s or more, maybe more suited to TV having lots of chips in front.

So if you & your crew is used to that, and it your set that you'll never sell, then go for the $5 to $100 jump.

FWIW, one of the casinos near me has banned $25s from the 1/3 tables and $100s from 2/5.

Why?

Because apparently a couple of players were caught going north during hands (slipping higher-denom chips into their own stacks when they had the nuts).

So instead of just banning those players and letting everyone know there is zero tolerance for cheating, they’ve hobbled the gameplay.

I would disagree that $25 are needed, as enough $5 (700 in this case) would support multiple bets under $100 for a 9 max table. If all $5 are in play, that would average over 70 $5s for each player which would be $350 in value. And on top of this, any bet over $100 would be utilizing the $100 denom anyways.
I live in IN, they like to have about 1k to 1500 reds on the table, its a hold over from high limit games. Its common to see stacks and stacks of red, I think its why I dislike a red 5 so much. This many fives are also needed when raking a game. More recently the larger games spread more 25s but still have 700-800 red in play.

This causes the game to slow down, pushing spilling red is fun but slows it down, don't get me started with the dude that won't stack his chips.

This argument is very close to people wanting to buy 2 and 3 racks of fracs for their game because they like spending a bunch of time pushing, spilling and counting down chip stacks. I see people counting out 5s by the 2s so they can put out a 65 USD call, I want to shoot myself to put out the misery! You can see their brain working as they count out 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 65! Same people that make stacks of 10.

Here is an ideal for you, you dislike 25s so much, change the denoms to $2, $10, $50, $200, $1000
