Have Chinese cards mold replica sets gone too far? (4 Viewers)

Well, he's tagged, so he can come here to deny it I guess. Honestly, I don't really care that much. Flip some Chinese ceramics on OfferUp if you want.

Caveat emptor.
Only two posts and he has not been on in almost a week. If he ordered chips directly from Tina, he may already have all he needs and these are just the extras. Who knows if he will come back here or not. I hope he doesn't right away and I get to play with him a bit. :ROFLMAO:

And I actually do care since I was directly responsible for these chips getting designed. I may eventually post a warning ad on Offer Up.

Texas is a big state.
Probably more than one Marvin in the state.

We have evidence and suspicions, but still don't know for sure based only on that.

Also, Offer Up dude is ghosting me. Still like to make him think I'm interested and string him out a bit.
Seriously?

Hopefully you can see the humor in this.
Now they’re doing PCA cards mold knockoffs. I won’t rant about it - you know my opinion.
But as an original chip only curmudgeon, those aftermarket hot stamped quarters (on the suits mold) always annoyed me. Because when you call them PCA quarters, somebody might believe those chips actually came from the PCA casino. So I always felt like those chips were kind of fake.
And now today I see that the fakes are being knocked off onto cards mold too. I’m not even sure what to think about it, but it makes me laugh.

I think the best will be when a PCF member’s family or friends decide secretly to do something special for them, and they find these “great casino chips from Reno or Las Vegas” and they overpay like hell for them on an auction or offerup site because they think they are the real thing.

Anyone who has concerns about these in a live casino rack — er, no.

I’ve handled a lot of PNY chips and have seen a lot of live PNY racks. Any of these Tina PNY denoms would jump out like a sore thumb IMO in a rack. Any cashier who takes chips and doesn’t give them a quick once over in the rack isn’t doing their job.

The concerns around pics, there are absolutely giveaways that it’s not real, but yeah, it’s a risk for noobs. So post a sticky on the front page somewhere as a warning, like Ten had for his shitty China chips except he was actually selling and promoting them. Call it the Ten Cautionary Sticky Post.

It's official. Cards molds have gone too far.

Yeah he’s referring to people making exact replicas of Paulson chips. I think that it’s a really good way for people to have playable sets of chips that either don’t exist in playable quantities or they cost to much. I have over 1k cards mold chips and am selling them all. I found that they quickly became slippery and stacked poorly.

My opinions on the original comment is that it’s kinda sketchy to be ripping off designs like that. To someone who’s a regular on the forum it might seem like a trivial task to spot the fake. But to any of my friends or family it would be extremely difficult. If the sets stay in the community and the sellers state that they are cards mold then it’s fine. It’s when you start selling on eBay and elsewhere where you can cross the line if you aren’t saying they are cards mold replicas.
New member reading through some older threads. Was curious about your comment regarding poor stack and slippery chips. I haven’t seen a lot of comments stating the same and wondering if other members are experiencing this issue with regular play?

Not all ceramics are created equal. Different manufacturers may offer stock and ooptions which differ in their physical play characteristics. Getting samples in hand helps.

To his point though, samples don’t really help. Unless you’re a good shuffler and want to sit there and shuffle a stack for a few days. Because I’ve had cards mold samples and they felt fine. Good maybe. I wish I’d kept them. Because I’d shuffle the heck out of them and find out for myself.

@chippenup we really haven’t seen a lot of feedback from people who have put a lot of hours on these. I’ve read a couple of reviews that go each way, from people who say they’ve put a lot of hours on them. So I’m with you - I’m all ears on their long term durability.

I have 1300 of these from one of the earliest NCC buys (semi customised). I've shuffled them quite a bit, and my daughter have harassed them as well. However I have not put them in play for poker yet. From what ive seen theres been no issues with condition yet. But i have probably shuffled different barrels and racks, so might not be that much use on the different individual chips.

Maybe I should do an experiment with a barrel. How many hours of shuffling would suffice to get a good idea of the wear do you think?

I remember doing this at one point with Jack watermelons. They got broken in reasonably quick when shuffling the same barrel for a few hours each evening.

Anyways, I'll grab a barrel of my NCC $10s and will see if I can find motivation to shuffle that same barrel for a few weeks.

This debate will (probably) never be settled, but I wanted to throw my 2 cents in, in regards to designs being too close to real casino chips

There will always be people looking to take advantage of people. This shouldn't stop people, who have good intentions, with pursuing their hobbies/interests.

I've seen people selling the Rock & Roll Casino chips that come from Apache for 30 cents, for as much as $5 per chip. And people buy them! Does anyone think Apache should stop selling chips? Or maybe print a disclaimer on each chip in a bold red font?.....probably not.

Cards Mold chips, in my opinion, will never cross the threshold of being close enough to a real casino chip for legitimate fraud/forgery to come in to play. They are a different material, and visually look different, even in photos, to anyone with basic knowledge. All that's left is personal judgement and bad luck, and I'm not responsible for either.
