Help Me Create A Premium Deck of Poker Cards! (27 Viewers)

Backs - 2 or 4

Index - I'm a fan of the typeface you used on style 2 but like the balance of white space in style 1. Maybe style 2 sized down 1pt to balance the surface area of the type to something more similar to style 1?

Bridge only :)

Backs 1 and 2 - (3 and 4 are deal breakers; I wouldn't buy them)
Index 1
I 'only' buy Poker to use (I have a shuffletec), but I'd pick up 2 setups of bridge to be social

Project status update:

Artwork: more or less ready to go, have some iconography etc. for the box, just need to drop it onto the final print template & decide on Poker vs Bridge size (Bridge would require adjustments of all the artwork which would take a while but no biggy really) at this stage I still haven't fully settled on either size and there seems to be a lot of Bridge noise around these parts ;)

Printers:

Trefl: Emailed me today saying they no longer make PVC cards, only paper
Dal Negro: Chased up, still waiting
Fournier: Chased up, still waiting
Queen/Marion Pro/Kuo Kau: Have sent me a fairly reasonable quote, but I need to confirm that is for their best casino PVC, as they have different stocks and finishes, so waiting to hear back from them (only interested in the best!)
Piatnik: Sent me a quote today. Very reasonable price per unit, but MOQ of 3k units puts total price up into the rafters. They also offered a more achievable price for 3k of a single deck, PVC Poker or Bridge, but I kinda had my heart set on a 2x deck setup...
Modiano: Sent me a fairly respectable quote, and a realistic MOQ, and seem helpful! Are these guys defo off the table? It's a shame they seem the best option of everyone I've contacted so far, based purely on their correspondence :confused

Once I settle on a printer and finalise the artwork this will most likely need to be a Kickstarter campaign or a pre-order/group buy affair due to the projected total price (I will upgrade to site vendor if we go the group buy route) - how many of you fine people would be interested in either of these options to help get this thing off the ground?

Thanks!

Do you have enough interest to do both?

Do you have enough interest to do both?

I don't know... more of a funds issue due to MOQs - I'd love to do both, but potentially most realistic to do one first and then another further down the line hopefully

Single deck won't sell very well imho. It has to be two decks no matter what.

Yeh totally agree!

Definitely a two deck setup. A single color only would be a nonstarter. Most home games use a two deck set up that's in play at the same time.

Piatnik's high MOQ is why group buys started by small groups here have failed in the past. Do you have any retail partners that you can offload some stock onto? Depending on price, I think you'll be able to guarantee about half of that amount in pre-orders, but the rest is where it gets tricky.

If you're dealing with Modiano, I'd be up front and honest with them. Tell them they fucked @desjgn over and that a large chunk of your buyer base is very hesitant to do business with them. Any business with them should come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee, in which any errors found in the printing process that make the cards marked in any way would require a reprint fixing the mistake on their dime, or else no deal.

Yeh you're talking total sense. And my wife said exactly the same thing about Modiano earlier today. Perhaps I will email them and be up front, it's a real shame what happened from the sounds of it, not good at all for anyone involved. And yes I do have some retail partners who might be interested, they usually deal in the premium/collectable paper playing card market, but this isn't a million miles off, they might be up for it. I'll put the feelers out!

I'm glad you type faster than me. I was going to say the same thing.

Modiano is a high risk, high reward vendor. It may be awesome, it may be a deck full of marked cards. Desijn took the hit and bought back every single deck. You have to ask "is it worth it?"
