My dad was the equipment manager for the Erie Otters in the late 90's early 00's. Tim Connolly was drafted by the Islanders and never came back from their training camp after he was drafted. That was my freshman year of high school, and I got his custom Nike skates since he didn't come back. Best skates I ever owned.

I remember him. Loads of talent but couldn't stay healthy.

I have a small connection to hockey. No great stories like yours, but my cousin was the equipment manager for the Sabres for over 50 years, his name is Rip Simonick. I also had another cousin who was an assistant coach of the Flyers, Blackhawks and Senators. He was also the Director of NHL central scouting until he passed in 2011. His name was EJ McGuire.

Yep, that's him! Like you said, awesome guy. So many amazing stories, I wish I could remember them. By the time the stories got out I was probably 4 or 5 beers deep lol.
 
I watched more Kraken games last season vs this season. I’ve just watched much less tv in general. But I am excited that our team should make the playoffs. That’s cool. Though the team name is still dumb. I voted for the Seattle Sockeyes.

How can a team be a singular mythical creature? That’s dumb.

It's great to see the expansion teams not struggling for 20 years, it certainly helps build a fan base.
 
Excuse the Lightning shirt. It was a pre-season game in Erie in which the Sabres played the Lightning so the Lightning equipment guy gave me an extra polo shirt they had.

Anyway, they look good this year, but I am not sure anyone can beat Boston the way they are playing... we shall see
