Ironically, it was the Red Wings beat him.
Roy allowed 5 goals in the first period. Mario Tremblay refused to pull him and sent him back out to start the 2nd period. The crowd "celebrated" when Roy made an easy save and Roy reacted by raising his arms in the air. Roy allowed 4 more goals in the second before finally being pulled with 8:03 left in the second. In total, he allowed 9 goals on 26 shots. I remember watching the game and thinking his defense was non-existent that night.
When he was finally pulled, he walked past Tremblay without saying a word, the doubled back to tell the team President, Ronald Corey, who was sitting in the front row behind the bench, that he had played his last game as a Canadien. He then sat down at the end of the bench.
He was traded to Colorado four days later. The Red Wings went on to win the game 11-1. Incidentally, the Canadiens had scored in the first, so it was 9-1 when they pulled him.
