How many NHL fans do we have here? (7 Viewers)

Marchand is too skilled to act that dumb but being a tool is in his dna and the wild will be a tough out in the playoffs.
I really like his skill game, he's an excellent player, there's no denying it. I also like players that play on the edge, like Tom Wilson. Except, when these guys cross the line they go waaaay the hell over it, to the point of embarrassment, and people can get seriously hurt.

No date yet, just waiting sometime in June. Plenty of time to make popcorn.
Absolutely cannot wait for this. Not sure there will ever be a rivalry quite like this one again. My sports claim to fame is being in attendance at the game that launched the rivalry. The electricity in the air was off the charts because we were going to the finals. Little did any of us know what was coming between these two teams.

My buddy lived out there at the time. He said everyone in Denver *hated* the Wings.

We weren't big fans of the Avalanche either, but we had so many other rivals.

(That said, the current Aves are a fun team to watch.)

Didn't Roy get blanked 7-0 at one point?

Ironically, it was the Red Wings beat him.

Roy allowed 5 goals in the first period. Mario Tremblay refused to pull him and sent him back out to start the 2nd period. The crowd "celebrated" when Roy made an easy save and Roy reacted by raising his arms in the air. Roy allowed 4 more goals in the second before finally being pulled with 8:03 left in the second. In total, he allowed 9 goals on 26 shots. I remember watching the game and thinking his defense was non-existent that night.

When he was finally pulled, he walked past Tremblay without saying a word, the doubled back to tell the team President, Ronald Corey, who was sitting in the front row behind the bench, that he had played his last game as a Canadien. He then sat down at the end of the bench.

He was traded to Colorado four days later. The Red Wings went on to win the game 11-1. Incidentally, the Canadiens had scored in the first, so it was 9-1 when they pulled him.

Yep, I know this story well. I found it. The game I was thinking of was game 7 during the 2002 playoffs and Detroit beat them 7-0 with Hasek in net.

Set to air Sunday at 1 EDT on ESPN, not sure about other time zones.

I was disappointed. It was only about the rivalry for the first hour. The second hour was about what happened to Vladdy and winning the second Cup, which had nothing to do with the Avalanche.

It was like the doc had no focus. Was it about the rivalry? Was it about the Wings? It certainly wasn't much about the Aves.

That’s a bummer. Recorded it but haven’t watched it yet.

Was hoping it be good so my kid who wasn’t born yet could get a true appreciation for what it was like. Nothing better than a great rivalry steeped in legit bad blood. It just amps everything up.

Not sure if you saw this? https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id...lorado-avalanche-detroit-red-wings-brawl-1997

Pretty good piece that captures the origins. That was a crazy time. Can’t believe it’s been that long ago.

I fear though I’m getting soft in my old age. I still try to hate the Wings for nostalgia reasons. But truthfully I don’t think I have much of a beef anymore. Even have Red Wing fans as friends. (What’s happened to me)

Just a few weeks til the regular season is underway!

Just saw this thread, but diehard Kings fan and have been since early 90s. Had season seats from 93-94 through 2010-2011. I did not renew in 2011-2012.... Yes, the year they won their first cup... lol. Just my luck.

Anyway, they look good this year, but I am not sure anyone can beat Boston the way they are playing... we shall see!
