At last count 39 playable sets... but reallybits like 42 now and probably just over 60k chips... enough??? I guess we all have a different definition of that word.

So would you say a $2 limit set AND a $3 limit set is excessive? They both see the felt regularly:

I was gonna say one more than however many sets I own, but it looks like that's been said more than a few times already.
Real answer, it depends on the person. What's your disposable income like, how much do you actually play, what kind of poker do you play. Are you making sets that you'll be playing often, or are you a collector? The sky is the limit if you have the money and like collecting.
I'd say from a practicality perspective, it's hard to argue you need more than 4 or 5 (if that!). Maybe an exception if you're running a big club or organizing events. Cash, tournament, limit. Maybe 2 cash sets because you want to spread wide stakes and you don't want one huge set. Maybe 2 tournaments if you want a cheaper one for large MTTs, or just like to switch up the base denomination. Maybye a smaller set for bringing other places, and a larger for home games.
I'm at 5 sets, 2 cash 2 tournament 1 limit, and I gotta say, the extra cash and tournament chips are totally superfluous.

It's a good question, one that I think many of us have pondered. I've settled on the number 7, but it will actually be 8 for nostalgia.
1 - cash set, 12½¢ / 50¢ / $2 / $10 / $50 , custom CPC, 1000 chips
2 - cash set, 25¢ / $1 / $5 / $20, mixed Paulson House Mold, 970 chips
3 - cash set, $1 / $5 / $25 / $100, mixed Paulson THC, 900 chips
4 - limit set, $1 / $20 , mixed Paulson THC/House Mold, rat rod style each barrel is different, 2100 chips
5 - tournament set, T100 base, custom CPC, 810 chips
6 - travel cash set, 25¢ / $1 / $5 / $25 , custom GOCC, 1000 chips
7 - travel tournament set, T25 base, 43 mm Ceramic, 1220 chips
8 - first set of plastics, played a lot of poker with these and aren't worth anything so I'll keep as a backup, 500 chips
Decided this awhile ago, still working on getting them all into playing shape, a few of the mixed sets I might tinker with forever and still working on some of the custom sets. Still have a 4000 piece T5 tournament set, but I'm breaking that into 4 separate sets and giving them to my younger cousins/nephew to get them started on their poker journey.
