I think the chips you are speaking of are only available for purchase to casinos. Maybe just anyone can buy them. If not, for the home market the Classics are high end. Best in class or right up there. Apples and oranges.

One thought comes to my mind - because they're nicer than the Classics? Better mold that doesn't say "PAULSON", less appalling inlay...
 
I would say all Paulsons are "high end" in their quality, just some molds and colors are more sought after. That probably comes down to personal tastes, but, that ultimately gets reflected in the price. There are brand new, never circulated HSI's going for $100 a rack, which will keep score just as well as a rack of THC Tiger Palace, but, the desirability of the HSI is reflected in its pricing. So, in the hierarchy of chips, the Classic's generally dictate a certain price point. That price is not reflective of the material quality, they are as good as any other Paulson, just their desirability.

If you're sufficiently insecure or illiterate that you can't distinguish the generic use of "you" from a specific reference to yourself, you might want to spend more time reading rather than posting things like "A Paulson is a Paulson."

In the meantime, try selling anyone here your contention that a Paulson Classic $500 is equal in any meaningful way to, say, a Vineyard $500.

As I said earlier, a chip is only worth what someone will pay for it. Scarcity and demand is what drives the market. The Classics are clearly appreciating. I would pay nothing for a Vineyard chip because I don't like the theme. I have a Heritage guitar. It's a nice guitar but it's not a Gibson even though it comes from the original Gibson factory. Is a Heritage H150 worth as much as a Les Paul Standard? It depends on whether the Gibson name matters to someone. So names do matter. Is a Les Paul Studio worth more than a H150. No. There is a certain value to a name, such as Gibson, just like there is a value to a name like Paulson. I understand that there are different qualities of chips and that some are worth more than others. I like what I like and you can like what you can like. I can believe what I believe and you can too.
 
Classics are, well, just that: classic. Personally, I absolutely love them.
 
So what you are saying is that Paulsons have different levels of quality just like guitars! Oh, I get it now. Why didn't you say that before?
 
In his defense, not that he needs my help, when he bought these they may have been considered top end. Pricing from Apache from back in the day shows Classics were sold for higher prices than Pharoahs, same price as CDI05s, and for a higher price than *gasp* Deadwoods, WTHC and Bahamia's, among others.

I don't really want to get involved here but, what timespan are you referring to?

Since 2000? Sure. Over the last 3-4 years? Appreciating - not so much.

Extending my Paulson Classics set is how I found PCF before I even knew what "Classics" even meant. That was in 2020 and I ended up selling my entire set to fund other sets. At the time I joined, Classics were selling somewhere between $3 - $3.50/chip. I sold my set for the same. Today, I'd say that price has remained consistent (despite some of the people that will tell you that these are flying off the shelves at $18/chip).
 
If the argument here is that they are appreciating then I would say false. Chip inflation caused them to sell for around $4-5/chips few years ago. I don’t see them getting even close to that again. Someone needs to fill their rack with one more barrel might slurge for $4-5/chip but a set selling for even $3/chip might be a tough sell. Those days are over.

I just unloaded a set of Noirs. One of the best Paulson home molds and they sold for barely over $3/chip.

I don’t mind the classics as they play fine and would prefer them over dice and most ceramics. But I don’t think I would ever buy “Paulson” mold chips, especially at anything over $2/chip. But I’m a chip snob.

This. The times of "chips at any price" are long gone. I just picked up a large qty. of NPS chips from a couple different sellers recently and paid $2.50/chip for them. I was motivated to buy, but that was a hard ceiling for me in terms of price. Personally, I can't see why anyone would pay more for Classics, unless they were trying to complete racks.

I bought my set back in 2006 for 94 cents a chip and they are now worth $2.00. I've doubled my money.
