I just wasn't sure if people took the time to do this when the number is constantly changing each hour/minute!

I have done it with certain denoms for estimates but wasn't sure if that's what people were doing. Makes sense!
 
Ok this has gone from big problem to disaster. I could understand if a couple of order slipped through, but we are talking 46 orders were allowed to go through. My head is spinning. I've sorted every order by time stamp. They were still allowing orders to go through at 14:05:32. I have been on the phone with 3 different people at PayPal with no resolve. From what I have been able to calculate, they allowed 6100 additional $1 new chips to be sold, 1260 $2 new chips to be sold, 2561 new $2.50 chips and 2072 used $2.50 chips. We had held back in inventory around 2000 of each the used $2 and $2.50 chips.

I have been racking my brain to try and figure out the fairest way to handle this. What we have decided to do is to fill all of the new $1 with used $1s. Fill all of $2 chips with used $2 chips. For the $2.50 chips, we will fill both the new and used orders with the remaining used chips based on time stamp of the orders. That will leave 19 orders without $2.50 chips. I will begin emailing those people tonight along with the international customers. The only email address I have is the email address from your PayPal account. Please check those email addresses. I can offer a swap from the $2.50 chips to $2 chips for as long as those last. The people who purchased $2 chips after the 1st hour was over, those orders will be filled last, if there are any remaining from swaps. Anyone who purchased $2.50 chips after the 1st hour, those will be refunded.

Again, I know this isn't the most ideal solution for everyone. If anyone cancels their order and more $2.50 become available. We will reach out to those who we were unable to fill their orders first. I am so sorry for all of the trouble. We are working hard to try and get all of the emails out and orders filled. Thanks again for your patience and understanding.

If anyone know that the used chips will absolutely not work and want to cancel their entire order, please email me at jim@thechiproom.com asap

Sorry this is happening Jim. This is a cluster and It is tough that it was out of your control. I hope most of the members here will be civil. Will we be disappointed...sure, but at the end of the day, they are chips and I hope people are happy with what they will be getting.

Well I guess my odds of getting $2 Chips are like 0% now. That sucks :(. Thanks for all you do though Jim. Hopefully, my order has enough to get filled

When you say held back in inventory does that mean that they weren’t available to purchase at the sale? Because from what I saw at 1:59 there were 2000 used $2’s available. I assumed that those where the ones held back, but after re-reading I think you just didn’t list 2000 $2’s for sale. Could you clarify this @TheChipRoom

We held back some of the $2s and $2.50 chips because we were going to offer them in sets at a later date.

Crap, don't say that! I just said it was "unlikely" earlier and got flamed for it. Of course, turns out I was right. Not because I'm super smart, even though I am, but cuz I just read carefully exactly what Jim told us earlier.

But there.is still a chance for second hour 2s, I believe. So keep your fingers crossed!

My guess is that when it allowed the additional purchases of the new chips, it did not count those against the total 2s available. Now the used 2s are being allocated to those who were supposed to get the new ones if they still want them. I would imagine many people will ask for returns as they were hoping for new one. I bet you will still get some but maybe not all that were available. I would imagine it is a tough pill to swallow...sorry man.

i also bet those 2k were intentionally kept out of the paypal numbers for something at a later date.

Thanks and sorry for the unfortunate situation and added stress. Despite a lot of bickering in this thread, I believe we are all unified in our love of chips and our continued hatred of PayPal.

And support of Jim. Emailing the affected buyers individually is yet another herculean task that he didn't bargain for but is undertaking to try and make things as right as possible given the circumstances.

Hope he doesn't have a day job......

All of the new chips are gone already? Gonna have to think this over but probably will be cancelling which should free up 120 pinks and 60 blues.

I did not understand everything. Will all the new $1 be shipped by timestamp and then the rest will be replaced by used $1 or will ALL orders have used $1 instead of new $1? what happens with the new $1 if the later? thx for clarifying
 
As a programmer, dealing with and preventing such race conditions is database-101, like, basic... I can't accept "this can happen to anyone", especially not a major player like PayPal. No system, no matter how big of a load that hit it, should allow for this to happen. That's what transactions are for. Distributed systems used nowadays do make it more challenging, but still - unacceptable.

Sorry to see this happened to you, Jim. Hope you give PayPal hell. Especially if it is not the first time. And especially given how greedy they are for letting us use their services.

I could be wrong, but I think all the new 1s were shipped yesterday. None remaining.
