Not Mine KEM Horseshoe Cincinnati / Cleveland cards (2 Viewers)

Here's what came in the mail today:

My initial impression is that they feel about as good as any other cards I've handled. Definitely on par with Fournier. But I've never handled any other KEM's before.
One thing I'll say is that the green/black setup isn't very well thought out. It's difficult to tell the difference in average lighting.
But my initial impression is this is a great purchase.

My 10 of spades has a spot above the H. Also the cards smell like dirt. :(

Both of my setups came yesterday, but I haven't had time to open the plastic and take a look at them yet. I like the case that came with the Cincy setup, but as previously mentioned they don't appear to be KEM cards as advertised.

I'll put up a review and some photos a little later hopefully.

Got my Cle cards, and they are good. Comparing them with a USPC KEM Poker JI Arrow setup the Clev appear to have slightly more texture.

Haven't received the Cincys yet (says they are scheduled for delivery tomorrow) .. Looks like I'll be returning them if they aren't KEMs and have issues.

Here is the black/gold Cincy setup. Despite not being Kem, the quality isn't bad. They feel a little less stiff than casino Kems, but the feel is still good. The black deck had a few minor issues, one card has a chip on the corner and there are several lines on the bottom edge of the cards. The gold deck has 3 of the same type of small chip on corners (final photo.) They are hard to capture in photos with my phone.

I will be keeping this setup. I may not put it into play, but they are cool to have with the set. I may just frame them to go next to my sample set of chips.

Photos of the Cleveland setup in a bit.

Here is the green/brown Cleveland setup. The quality is noticeably better in these cards than the Cincy cards. I have no quality issues in these cards, front, back or sides. The only 2 very minor things, there is a tiny tiny bit of upwards bend (cannot capture in a photo) and the jokers have a different bend than the rest of the deck, which is only an issue if you're playing a game with a joker obviously.

I am also keeping these but may have them in play. The jumbo may end up being too large for my players, so I'm not sure if they'll stay in rotation even with the Cleveland chips.

I'm happy to provide specific photos of anything in either setup if anybody has any more questions. :)

If anyone is wondering;
seller said:
These are Kem Cards manufactured by US Playing Card company. The same company that manufactures Bicycle cards. They have been making these for the last 13 plus years. Here is there warranty information below.
+1-800-543-CARD

I called the number and the lady said that they were not KEM cards, rather an Aristocrat casino line. She gave me a number for replacement cards but as expected they do not have any. I also found marks on the red deck as well, leaving me with two unplayable decks.

I have never returned anything from Amazon. Will shipping be refunded based on the fact that these were sold as KEMs and I do not see the KEM name anywhere on them?

This is bad news, since I contacted the seller this morning asking for a partial refund. I do want to keep the cards, but I don't feel they hold the same value as KEM cards.

Amazon should refund shipping if the product received was not as advertised by the seller. They have great customer service and I've never had an issue getting full refunds. They should also give you a shipping label to send the product back with.

It's a pretty odd screwup, listing the Admirals as KEM's. If they were just listed as plastic casino cards, they would have been fine.
Listing them specifically as KEM's is only likely to attract the type of people (us) who would notice the difference and be dissatisfied.
I'd like to give the seller the benefit of the doubt (especially if both brands are owned by the same company) but this is a screwup that would have been easy to avoid and could end up being costly.

From the outside there is no way to tell they aren't KEM as the case is USPC and the blank card blocks any image of a card face or brand. Aristocrat is not mentioned anywhere on the outside of the package, though neither is KEM.

Ideally you'd think the seller would open at least 1 setup to get more information about what they were selling. It is entirely possible that whoever they got the cards from described them as KEM cards, but ultimately it is their responsibility to accurately describe the item being sold.

Kems come in Kem boxes, period. The USPC boxes are off brand, Bicycle plastic cards, or aristocrats.

The second lady I talked to said that US playing card bought KEM and they could be KEM card but that made zero sense to me as they say Aristocrat which is another line from USPC.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. And on the one hand, I can see how you might not realize the need for that if you're not a card-savy person. But on the other hand you 1) probably shouldn't be selling cards if you don't have any knowledge of cards, and 2) should look at a few card ads, realize pictures of the card faces are customary, and open up a pack and take some damn pictures!

It's also possible to identify the brand based on the design on the back of the card, which could be seen without opening the plastic. I don't know enough about cards to know whether or not that card back is exclusive to Aristocrat, but did already know of the KEM circle pattern used on the Cleveland setup.

The wait is killing me.....! Somehow USPS tried to deliver them yesterday (Sunday????), and now being a holiday, they won't arrive until Wednesday (I have a 1 day delay where I sent them, due to internal mail processing, aka work....) :(

I'll report back when I get mine (2 Cinci and 3 Cleve setups)

My guess is that they are either Kem or Fournier material, but then printed with the Aristocrat brand. USPC used both of their stock material (plastic) for the last 4-5 WSOP setups, but printed the ace of spades as Bicycle. I ordered some black/gold setups, and won't have a good guess until I get my hands on them. My guess is Fournier, because the back design looks similar to these^^^^^^^^
