I was up too late finishing all the tables last night after my games. The last online game was gross. KK vs 82. K22 Flop, 2 on the river.

I need to fade heat from the wife due to the late night but will get the last round 1 tables up here ASAP.

Ok, so when doing an event like this (flipament), what is the correct way to break down tables?

It looks like Round 2 will be 7 tables.
Should I keep the first 7 tables as is and then place players from the remaining tables in empty spots?
When I place those players in the empty spots should I do it in any specific order, or just random seating? I know in this case it doesn't matter, I am just curious how it would work if this was happening in a live setting.

Unsure that there'd be much precedent for a flipament with so many split pots... but here's how I think it would go down.

Take the seat cards for all players who don't already have a seat, shuffle them up, and deal them randomly in each of the open seats at each of the remaining tables. Fill in the tables with 3 players left first, then 2 player, then if there are any singles left, pick the tables you want to keep intact and deal 5 seat cards to the 5 open seats.

  1. Determine how many players you have remaining.
  2. Determine how many tables you need (based off step 1 results)
  3. Tables that are numbered higher than the number of tables you need will be broken down. So if you need 4 tables, anyone seated at tables 5 or higher will be reseated.
  4. Players at tables not being broken down remain stationary. Not that position matters in a flip, but you may as well know the proper procedure.
  5. Randomly place each of the players to be reseated at the remaining tables. Use caution to make sure the tables are balanced - I can give details on this process if needed, but trying to avoid making this appear confusing. It's really easy once you get to doing it.
In a casino, if you are down to the final 2 tables, everyone is randomly reseated. Then when you get to the final table, everyone is randomly reseated once again. Again, this is because of the importance of position, which matters less in a flip.

I'm curious. The assignments are done now, but should he have also made an attempt to even out the total number of chips at each table? I notice there are 57K chips at one table, and only 24K chips at another. Or it's just the luck of the draw?

It is just luck of the draw with seating. If we try to engineer it for chip stacks then it is no longer random.

In a casino (and my home game), it is luck of the draw. Trying to balance would be a nightmare, and sooner or later all the small stacks and all the big stacks will be at the same table, so it wouldn't really make sence to try to balance the stacks.
 
This unbalancing of chips on a table happens a lot in tournaments. Sometimes a more aggressive table, or a table that is busting lots of players, will just accumulate more chips. It can be weird moving from one table where maybe you're chip leader or second in chips over to a table where everyone has heaps, but it happens all the time.

This is part of the reason there's an occasional full redraw of the tournament field - at the end of each day, as well as at 3 tables, 2 tables, and the final table. It helps balance the total chips on each table and shakes up the positioning of the players at the tables; it wouldn't be terribly fair if you got stuck to Ike Haxton's right at a table that was never breaking, for example, so the redraw helps randomize those situations.

Funny story about that. At Foxwoods one time, down to 3 tables, the last guy got knocked out right before a break. The floor guy said “we’re just gonna take the break now and then reseat you when you come back. Because if I reseat you now, you’re all gonna go outside on break, get stoned, and forget where you’re sitting”

All round 2 tables will be run tomorrow. With the different chip stack sizes it will be interesting to see how many rounds I'm going to need to do!
 
It's kinda not a flipament anymore, you might actually have to break tables like a normal tournament and pick a breaking order :D
