Lightning Strikes (2 Viewers)

Let's go Bolts

Caught the 3rd period last night. Lightning look quicker and hungrier than my Wings. Honestly a sweep would not surprise me.

The code of conduct between players is that you stop throwing punches when the opponent is down on the ice. Abdelkader clearly crossed that line and threw several cheap shots. If the NHL is serious about its concussion protocol, he should receive supplemental discipline.

Once Victor Hedman took a cheap (and unprovoked) shot, knocking Pavel Datsyuk's tooth out of his head, it was on. Retaliation was imminent if the Wings were to lose. When the score deteriorated after the open net goals, you knew someone was about to get their ass beat.

...but yeah, a suspension or fine should be forthcoming.

I saw Hedman's hit on Datsyuk - I thought it was an inadvertent high stick due to the height differential between between the players. I did see Zetterberg looking for Datsyuk's tooth

it's in the first second of the video. Hedman "unloads" (his knees and torso straighten out) into Datsyuk, less than a second after the "accidental" high-stick. The game was extremely physical, and I'm sure there were a dozen other shots similar to this (from both sides) that weren't caught on TV, that didn't cause permanent damage, and that didn't send a key player to the locker-room.

I don't condone Abdelkader's retaliation - but I did expect it. Keep in mind Abdelkader didn't start the fight either. There were 2 Lightning players beating on Richards. Abdelkader jumped in to even the fight... and end it.

That, I do condone.

The Red Wings played a good defensive game last night, limiting the Lightning to 16 shots. You can't score if you don't shoot the puck. The Lightning PK was still solid going 7/7, but that was the main problem - too many penalties. Time to regroup for Tuesday night.

Apparently Abdelkader is afraid to drop the gloves when his opponent can fight back

Great game last night - the Lightning finally got the power play going - Jonathan Drouin had a solid game with 3 assists - Kucherov continues to be the best player on the ice - and Ondrej Palat scores the game winner :)

Game day :) Hopefully we can finish off the Red Wings tonight and rest up for the winner of the Panthers/Islanders series.

Congrats to the Bolts for advancing even though it keeps the most epic Stanley Cup ever from happening...Hawks vs Wings.

In true Hawks fashion they waited until facing elimination to wake up and play some hockey. Just might get to that Hawks/Bolts rematch after all. ;)

Sorry, but I am happy to see the Blackhawks out of the playoffs. Rematch will have to wait for another time.
