Are we supposed to feel sorry for casinos now?
Yup
If your position is that companies eventually get to a big enough size that it’s ok to steal from them just say so. We can live with it and somewhat rationalize out deceit with that explanation. We do it all the time.
The theme I see here is that “as long as it’s not specifically banned, like with a physical sign (cause that makes it official), it’s ok even if it harms others”.
Let’s say this is your business
you just lost $500 to one single person. Granted not everyone’s a greedy fuck, but how do you feel about losing $500? Do you run your businesses this way?
You're generalizing. A LOT of people here aren't saying this at all. We've had Casino employees and security advisors stating that they have direct knowledge that some casinos have NO issue whatsoever with it. That casino employees with management approval have in some cases assisted with harvesting. We're talking about a small amount of money per chip (on $1 and under) that some casinos are perfectly happy to absorb. Call it cheap advertising and promotion for their business. So unless you have direct evidence that the casinos DO consider it to be theft, then you're just expressing your opinion, same as everyone else here. No need to take a "holier than thou" attitude. The theme I see here is that “as long as it’s not specifically banned, like with a physical sign (cause that makes it official), it’s ok even if it harms others”.
Of all the harvesters you seem to be a pretty decent one. You work good with people, you listen, and you think about your actions.yep. this has been my hold up since day one. you are absolutely right. And I agree, that stealing is stealing. No matter who you take from. I guess I am just trying to find a way to rationalize it. running a biz you are constantly depreciating assets due to customer use. chips seem no different. If I saw a rule written in black and white then that would make me stop harvesting at this scale.
I agree. You should drop it because it’s not an effective argument. No need to take a "holier than thou" attitude.
Right. And things may vary from casino to casino. You can shoplift up to $950 before going to jail, should we all start doing it because companies are rich and dumb and can afford it?
You're hilarious. You write this after deleting all the effective arguments from my post.I agree. You should drop it because it’s not an effective argument.
It is the way. You're hilarious. You write this after deleting all the effective arguments from my post.
It makes arguing much more efficient* to be fairYou're hilarious. You write this after deleting all the effective arguments from my post.
Just STOP IT. Right now. There will be NO logical reasoning allowed in this thread!!!What the hell are you guys arguing about?
Let's look at this from a practical perspective. Casinos are VERY GOOD at protecting their assets. Casinos are also VERY GOOD at establishing procedures for their employees to follow. If casinos really had a policy against harvesting, we would be well aware of it by now.
I love it when someone starts out a discussion on a topic that is highly controversial with "It's clearly..." Because the last thing this discussion is is clear. And you saying so doesn't make it so.It’s clearly not completely ethical but double downing on how bad it is - it takes a special kind of person. It’s incredibly benign and not just relative to crime but relative to a lot of legal economic activity that the boot lickers will defend on the basis of it being consensual.
In an ethical world nobody would have the luxury to be this pious.
If for whatever reason the casino knowingly tolerating it isn’t enough and you want to make sure no parties are negatively impacted through your economic activity just piss away a little bit of money on blackjack while you’re doing it. Now everyone is a winner.
Haven’t ever done it myself but two thumbs up to all who are.
Sounds good. I haven't really had an "in" with an employee yet. I try to grab a few racks out of a lot of places each trip. Just to stay under the radar.@casinochipper22 I was working with the Ballys poker room manager who was helping me get racks of 1s to sift through. He was openly letting me buy racks and I was sorting through them for good ones at a side table. After a while he looked up the price on his computer and said: "well these cost us about a buck each so you can't take any more 1s. You can take as many 5s as you want". He was a tall white dude with glasses.
I had someone tell me at a different LV room that I was only allowed to take 1s since (I assume) they didn't want higher denom chips floating around because of risk of counterfeiting.
So if you talk to people in the industry you will get many different answers. In general, its better to not ask too many questions and harvest the chips you want within reason. If you are hitting a place for 10 racks a day then people will start to notice. If you take 5 racks per year then you are probably fine.
I had the exact same experience. I politely approached cages or poker bosses and told them what I wanted to do. They either let me or they didn't. There was nothing shady or unethical about it.@casinochipper22 I was working with the Ballys poker room manager who was helping me get racks of 1s to sift through. When you harvested in this manner, did they let you comb through piles of chips to try to find the ones in best condition? How many did you end up buying?I had the exact same experience. And I agree with your sustainability comment, it's the douche monkeys setting up embarrassing business ventures aggresively harvesting every rack in sight for a bit of profit that will ruin it for everyone else. The same people were probably hoarding toilet paper for profit when covid began.
Or those looking to buy up masks from China to sell at peak prices due to the high panic driven demand? The same people were probably hoarding toilet paper for profit when covid began.
Oh Erik!? Lol I blocked him days ago, he’s just a waste of everyone’s time. All hail Mr Chip Perfect.I love it when someone starts out a discussion on a topic that is highly controversial with "It's clearly..." Because the last thing this discussion is is clear. And you saying so doesn't make it so.
I could not disagree with you more that this practice is alway unethical or illegal. I've seen no evidence presented anywhere herein that supports that claim. You don't have to believe me or take my word for it, but I highly value and strive to be an honest, moral, ethical and law abiding person. I would absolutely not participate in harvesting, or in purchasing/owning harvested chips if I believed the practice to be at all immoral or unethical, much less illegal. To imply that anyone is not an ethical person because they are on the other side of this issue from you is incredibly self-righteous.
The cage boss sorted through 5 racks and I did the same. I ended up with 1 near mint rack. When you harvested in this manner, did they let you comb through piles of chips to try to find the ones in best condition? How many did you end up buying?
That’s awesome! I’m guessing it was relatively slow at that time? The cage boss sorted through 5 racks and I did the same. I ended up with 1 near mint rack.
Or guys who sell crappy, personalized chips for a profit once they realize they look and feel like total African made crap.Or those looking to buy up masks from China to sell at peak prices due to the high panic driven demand?
Wait wait…did someone on PCF do this?Or those looking to buy up masks from China to sell at peak prices due to the high panic driven demand?
Even worse is watching those chips be re sold and then re sold again (immediately upon arrival from the post office) to ZERO buyers. Talk about ethics? Buy the chips back OG, It’s called a open return policy.Wait wait…did someone on PCF do this?
Hahahaha nice try. Actually I sold them for the same price they cost me.Or guys who sell crappy, personalized chips for a profit once they realize they look and feel like total African made crap.
