Most Beautiful Casino Racks (1 Viewer)

There's at least one other one out there.... I think it's a $100 or $500. Much more color-balanced than this one.

For 1983, this was a pretty good set of chips. MGM Grand Reno.

Images from chipguide, and according to chipguide, this casino was open from 1980-1986. Wish I was there the day they closed to buy all their chips. Anybody have a time machine? Every chip here is fantastic. Seriously.

i saw a lot of $25 and $100 of those destroyed
I don't despair of buying the rest one day :dead:

Time to take a trip. To the great state of IOWA. I grew up there, so there is a bit of a soft spot for Iowa's chips in my heart. Around 1990, the first casinos started opening. Private companies had to have riverboats, Native Americans got land casinos. That was a very typical setup in the Midwest.

Two of the first riverboats to open were the Diamond Lady (top) and Emerald Lady (bottom). They were only open for a year before rebranding, so the chips are loooooooooong out of service. These are the only denominations because there was a $5 per bet limit at the time, and a $200 per "trip" gambling limit. Leaded Paulsons. Shaped inlays. Half decent spot progression. Nice chips!

One more reason to get started on my time machine...

Today our time machine travels to Reno, Nevada. From the 60s to the 90s, the Horseshoe in Reno had some fantastic chips. I've picked the ones I like best. Even though not pictured, the large key series of chips, and their hub mold series of chips, are both also excellent. Enjoy.

I own the 50 cent hotstamp, despite my firm opposition to collecting hotstamps, because it is one of the best hot stamp fracs I've ever seen. It's up there with the Club Bingo 12 1/2 cent hot stamp for sure.

Seriously, Horseshoe Reno chips are hot. Let's compare that last hundo up there to the chip that, according to PCF, was our favorite black chip when I did the polls back in 2020.

The chip on the right is donkey ball sack hair compared to the galactic beauty of the Horseshoe chip.

Resorts World Las Vegas. Just opened. It's a house mold, but I really like these chips.

I wish the rim was bigger on the house mold, but at least the text isn't so close to the edge that these are going to get flea bit to hell and back. The large and color-matched denominations are killer, and a good model for other casinos.

I love the $20, but at $2000 a rack I guess I'll let it pass.

However, that $1 may inspire a few house mods sets.

Yeah... aside from samples, I'm one of those chipping black holes. Chips enter, but they never leave.

Though they do usually end up in other player's stacks.

These are leaded, textured Paulsons. I'm pretty sure it would be a race to see who could get there first if these chips were still live and the place was still open. The $5 is weak, but I think it is a bad, dark picture. The Horse Book $5 has the same colors and appears much brighter/better.
It is very very subtle, but even on the Peanut House inlay, there are two versions of the $5. In stacks, they’re nearly indistinguishable. Easy way to tell apart is the spacing of the printed red “5” (on the inlay). The 5 closer to bottom of chip is darker and the 5 printed closer to “Saloon” is the brighter version.

Darker on left in both pics:

I think this is one of the least appreciated TRK chipsets. I absolute love mine.

On a separate note, thanks for this thread. It’s giving me ideas of chipsets to hunt, you have fantastic taste.

I had some of the ones and fives once. Mine were bicycle tires, which is why I sold them. Yours are beautiful. You may have the only mint set out there.

Let's go back to California! I can't remember the last time I discovered such nice chip sets in a short time frame.

Chipguide says the J&K Saloon was open in Pixley, CA from 1978 to 1983. I don't like hot stamps. But they're growing on me. This set of four chips is just super. J and K are old or dead by now, but maybe they kept the chips?

The JB Reno chips are one of the most colorful sets that are out there . Often overlooked and underrated - IMHO … I love the chips that I have - almost a rack each of the hot stamps , $1 , $5 ,
$25 , $100 . They are just great chips !!!

Time for another one! This evening I found a day cruise that operated out of Mississippi in 1989 for eight months. That's all chipguide says.

That hundo! All chips are good or better, except the white plain boring $1. A few here are just fantastic. Anybody locate the hoard? '89 was a looooooong time ago, but older hoards have been found.

That $20 looks like the origins of the 'fantasy' yellow we see everywhere.

This lineup has much fire!
