First night felting the new chips. Everyone loved them I was worried they would miss their dice chips but they were just as in love with them as I am so I couldn’t ask for more from my apes. They were also pretty well behaved with handling them.
I didn’t think I was going to host a game until July but last minute impromptu game of my regulars came about. Colored up to get a $25 involved just to marvel at its supremacy so that was cool and to be the “first person” to earn one.
Paris 1’s fracts $.25/.25 blinds

Hell of a night for big hands, full houses over full houses a bunch, I flopped a straight flush in a 3 way all in on the river, so much fun. 11 person table lol, never doing that again. In for $80 out for $214.25 but $32 is missing and as the banker I ate that, sucks but too much booze and clouds, someone miss counted I think, is what it is. Next time I won’t just trust their counts and pay, I’ll double check, tough to do while playing with 11 people 3 sheets to the wind lol.

Edit: Money found. Counts were good, just a miscommunication between some of the guys settling up for golf and earlier activities along with cards.

PLO is Pot-Limit Omaha, very popular poker variant. Same as hold-em, but instead of two cards you get 4 and must use two of them to make the best 5-card hand. Lots of action so betting is capped at the pot instead of no-limit betting.

The idea that "Pot Limit" actually puts some sort of practical brakes on betting into the pot is a myth. PLO pots can explode if you have 2-3 people intent on getting their money in, and really becomes equivalent to NL. If there's $12 in a pot pre-flop, then post-flop 3 people say "Pot!" in succession, you are now staring at $216 with a minimum call of $144. And this can happen on every street. That's pretty aggressive for, say, a $0.25/$0.50 or $0.50/$1 game.

I think we've talked like this before. Yes, the pots can get big, but PL is still a limit on what you can bet.

If they're intent on getting their money in its tough to stop them, sure, its not fully fixed limit.

It does put the breaks on pre at least, but in my experience it rather increases bet sizes post because everyone just goes ”pot”, which they rarely will in NL.

IMHO NLHE is the cheapest form of poker.

Any other limit placed on the betting automatically runs up against that limit, often betting up to any restriction placed on number of raises as well.
Pot limit is ok, but it’s just too easy for aggro players to say “pot”
Limit is as above, often pushed to four bets on every street.

Easily the cheapest form of poker I’ve found is 2/5 NLHE.

Must use only 2 from your hand and 3 from the board
A more humane variant is Cuckoo bird.
You are dealt 3 hole cards, bet pre-flop, and discard one of the hole cards as soon as you see the flop.
From then on, BOTH hole cards must be used.
Edit: It's just a variant for the sake of variety. It can only produce marginally stronger hands than TX Hold'em (if ever).

So, like Crazy Pineapple except you must use both remaining hole cards. Flush draw! Flush draw! Flush draw!

@NotRealNameNoSir is out here complaining about bagpipes when the real crime is subjecting PCF to photos of dice chips.
I know, but dont tap the glass! Old man game, just broke. Easing them into it, I showed them a picture of my flamingos and my card capper and they seemed interested. We'll see!

In for $50
Out for $147

Donated an awful lot back through the night because I want to keep getting invited back. The most (only) aggressive player at the table was two to my right and just kept getting strong second best hands. 5 card draw, 7 card stud, 5 card stud, hold em, BUT ABSOLUTELY NO OMAHA. Its so important to give action and see flops, if you tighten up youre not coming back, its a lil 7 man kitchen table.

Rrally started winning when it got down to 4 of us, just pushing the advantage.

Old player slow rolled me and said two pair...both pairs were Queens. I laughed it off because the games juicy but hes clearly a winner.

Best Scarney hand of our first circus night. AAA3 scoops four way all in.
We mixed one orbit of circus games in between NLH and it was a huge success.

Do you find that you have less spilled drinks with beverages on the playing surface vs. inside those shallow cup holders on the railing? I don't allow my players to put their drinks in the cupholders on my Barrington bc, as I can tell you are aware, they spill all of the time but now you got me wondering if it wouldn't be a bad idea to allow them to put their drinks on my table topper.

Absolutely no drinks in those cup holders at my table. We had a good rum, that was allowed ON the table, but that’s an exception. I have small tables on the side to put beers and stuff on.

You can swap the cup holders out pretty easily.

Yeah I use side tables, too. Only had drinks on the table for my birthday party when it was my non-poker playing-non-savages friends playing with me.
