Yep, as an Irish too! ;) :ROFLMAO:
Any thoughts on the Bushmill's 10? That one is more in my price range.

Also, I love Compass Box Orchard House for it's fruitiness. Anyone tried the Crimson Casks? That description sounds delicious.

I've had this one, which was pretty decent, but not the Bordeaux cask one.

Bushmills 10 year Single Malt

Nose: light and bright, sweet vanilla buttercream, honey, green apples and irish pot still notes.

Palate: follows the nose, creamy sweet vanilla and honey, and a just a hint of pear and berries. Light mouthfeel.

Finish: short finish, you get a touch of oak and pot still notes but mostly the sweet vanilla and honey.

Overall, nothing crazy complex but very smooth, drinkable and enjoyable.

Former Honey Hole with generally reasonable prices (not MSRP, but not secondary). Changed ownership, which usually means bottom-of-the-barrel for allocations. But has TONS of allocated bottles, and nosebleed pricing (EHT BP for $500, for example). Not sure how they’re getting these bottles, when all my other secret spots are dry as the desert, allocation-wise.

Pics of the office. Many many other allocated labels on the shelf.

Yup. I’ve been dealing with the same situation here. My old honey holes now look like museums. Tons of good bottles are stupid prices.

I can’t imagine that will last. Eventually the owners will tire of the museums. Esp when the secondary market collapses. Then the drinkers can triumph over the collectors again.

Unlike poker chips, the supply of bourbon is much more elastic. A couple years from now will be the time to stock away excellent BP bottles at sub $60 prices. I’m guessing.

I can definitely say that I now like this better than the cask strength. The higher ABVs that I normally gravitate to just don’t taste right to me now. Oddly enough , higher proof bourbons/ryes in particular now taste the worst of the whiskies that I drink…which sucks since the majority of my collection is BP bourbon/rye :(

The tail-end of a cold postponed Fryeday. I saw all your talk about these and was lucky to grab them on Unicorn Auctions for very reasonable prices.

Going to have an @Billy Baroo inspired blind with tonight, cheers!

See my above post regarding the nitro fuel bottles lol

Under most circumstances, I’d be all over that :cool

I’d highly recommend the Still Austin BiB seasonal releases, the recent blue and red corn 5yr bottles were flavors bombs. To the point where I don’t think I’d want them at a higher proof… words I thought I’d never say lol

It’s not that I don’t enjoy lower ABV pours every now and then, but what has changed is my palate for and enjoyment of the higher proof offerings after my stroke.

I’m hoping it’ll eventually come back but if it doesn’t…there might be a good old fashioned fire sale on some heavy hitters. At least 70-80% of my 70+ bottle collection is probably north of 115 proof.

This one might be better than the RB Lustau. It takes your normal garden variety Green up quite a few notches with the extra finishing and bump up to 92 proof over 80. Kinda what Lustau does for the standard RB12. Need to find another but I’ve only seen this once and sadly, never again.

Shit, I knew I had seen Backbone before, I bought this almost exactly a year ago on a whim because it was on the shelf for $15.99 and never got around to opening it......

This is pretty good, I wish I had tried it sooner so I would have known to go back and buy the lot, lol

That was probably a killer price. Not sure what the juice is but great deal!

Well this was a super fun blind. They’re all so rye forward it made me smile.

KC batch 2 > KC batch 1 >>>> barrell batch 3 > barrell batch 1

There was a big gap between the KCs and the Barrells. The KC batch 2 gets a bow from me, just so frickin good. The KC batch 1 was a little sweeter - reminds me of OO11, super solid, but drinking side by side, I’d take batch 2 every time.

There was a big gap between the KCs and the Barrels - the barrells tasted younger and more sharp. I went back and forth between which I liked more, but the batch 3 has a finish that reminds me of EHT BP rye, it just goes and goes with a nice drying sensation. You can taste the “polish” rye, it’s just different, in a good way. I’ll probably revisit these more frequently.

Super happy to have these ryes in my collection, you guys know your stuff!!

It's actually really fucking good. Interesting mix of sweet honey, sugar cane and cream soda; then sweet oak, a bit of red fruit and then some spicy rye on the back palate. Dammit I knew I should have bought more....
