Well this was a super fun blind. They’re all so rye forward it made me smile.

KC batch 2 > KC batch 1 >>>> barrell batch 3 > barrell batch 1

There was a big gap between the KCs and the Barrells. The KC batch 2 gets a bow from me, just so frickin good. The KC batch 1 was a little sweeter - reminds me of OO11, super solid, but drinking side by side, I’d take batch 2 every time.

There was a big gap between the KCs and the Barrels - the barrells tasted younger and more sharp. I went back and forth between which I liked more, but the batch 3 has a finish that reminds me of EHT BP rye, it just goes and goes with a nice drying sensation. You can taste the “polish” rye, it’s just different, in a good way. I’ll probably revisit these more frequently.

Super happy to have these ryes in my collection, you guys know your stuff!!

The Barrell SiB ryes with higher age statements (10+ years) are much better, often higher proofs too. They have a slightly different bottle label, like this:

^^^This is THE correct answer. ^^^

This would make one helluva fight! Only one missing from that party is KC batch 2…which is my personal favorite also! I have opened bottles of both KC Cask strengths and another one of the Barrell but none of them drink anywhere near their proof points. Very dangerous lol

These double digit age stated Barrell Canadian ryes are ridiculously good. They’re basically Alberta Premium cask strength with a significant amount of barrel time tacked on. God I hope I get my taste buds back for the higher proofs  :ROFLMAO:

I saw one at a store doing a raffle in Chicago yesterday and figured I should grab it, but decided to wait to see if I won anything first.

Let’s just say I didn’t I get the SiB rye…Tonight will be another fun one!

OESV may be my favorite 4RBS recipe.
I'd love to comment, but that would necessitate my having seen or been in the presence of multiple bottles of different recipes of 4rSbBs. I've seen many nice bottles at stores, but never once a 4rSbBs.

I have a few extra if you need some. Pm me

Costco had the Bernheim Wheat Whiskey Barrel Proof today. It messed me up, because it was the B924 batch, and yes that's right, but being used to the EC and Larceny labeling, seeing the B in front of the 9 screwed with my head a little bit.

The week started out hot with a BTAC win at my big box store (spend weighted drawing). I stuck to my guns and went with GTS (based on early press reviews). I’ll probably enjoy drinking this one the most, but I’m wondering if I made the right choice...going to crack it sometime this week/end, but would love to know your thoughts on the rest of the lineup.

I had nothing better to do yesterday, so I decided to go downtown to a small EOY allocated raffle. Everyone got 5 tickets to put in buckets. I put 4 in the RR15 and on a whim, one in the 4R 135th, you know, to diversify…

I lost the RR15 drawing first. When the 4R drawing came up, I said to the people around me, “can one get it done?” … and it did!

Super excited to try this one, especially after listening to the mash and drum’s livestream with Brent Elliott.

Letting it rest, going to nurse it while watching Sicario. Cheers!

Some finds I never see in Wake County.

Russell's SB was $4 off to boot.

I really like the New Riff Single Barrel and this regular is pretty darn good too. I did not get the Larceny Single Barrel had it before it's really good..B524

That New Riff 6yr malted rye is excellent!

Wake county has really stepped up their game as of late. This year I’ve seen about a dozen or so bottles that I haven’t seen in over 3-4 years. Just got to be patient and use their online inventory search to see where stuff is. It’s not always up to the minute accurate but it gives you a good idea of what’s floating around out there.

I am not a rye guy. I find most ryes too sweet. Messes up my cigar.

I found a problem with the online inventory. I saw 30 bottles of Eagle Rare at a store. Went there and they said oh that inventory is for our restaurant side of the store, which is totally separate from what we sell. Not helpful to me.

Just gotta love those mid tier bottles at OVER secondary pricing by 30%. I bought some sour mix and left lol.

@Saoliver  hoping to stumble upon one of those HH bottles someday…

You reminded me that I haven’t tried the Still Austin 5yr blue corn yet!

Not the most exciting Michter’s bottles but got them both for $80 out the door! First time trying the American whiskey, cheers!

My opinion, but the Michter's US-1 Rye is bar none, the best rye you can buy that's under 100 proof. I'm drinking it right now.
There’s just so much flavor in there, I was shocked it’s on the low end proof wise.

This still Austin though…I saved it for last, would highly highly recommend. It’s reminding me of MM FAE-01 with rye and Texas funk. I wish I was in Austin and could get more of their special releases… not to mention their beautiful artwork

Am excited to try the 4yr blue corn vs the 5yr blue and red corn.

I can't believe I only recently bought my first bottle from Still Austin. It's their cask strength rye, and it might be the best high proof rye I've ever bought. I have plans to pick up a few of their other offerings soon. I'm on the lookout for the 6 YR bourbon and the 5 YR rye.
