Anybody seeing the Woodford Double Double Oak? $200 is pricey, but I bet it tastes like a tree branch. :D

I haven't had many of the Woodford special offerings, but the few I've had have been disappointing. Not bad, but nowhere worthy of the price tag. YMMV.....

Doing some bottle killing tonight:

No shit! And you didn't grab it assuming that I would take it off your hands? That's the only Woodford special release that I'd pay up for...
Upon further review, I cannot confirm if it was the double double because I looked online and they have a bunch of special releases with the same bottle shape. I’ll go back to the store today to check it out.

Has anyone seen this bottle (NEW RIFF MALTED RYE FINISHED IN SHERRY) on the secondary lately? If you do, tag, me please.

False alarm on the Woodford DDO. I didn’t realize they had a bunch of new products, and the bottle was very similar if not exact. The one behind the counter was unreadable in both the label and the price tag. It was the Madeira Cask edition.

What are your favorite wheaters?
Over the last year, I've really enjoyed:
  • the MM higher proof products (the lost recipe at Costco was very good for $60)
  • Larceny A124 super solid
  • Ben Holladay Soft Red Wheat rickhouse proof
I feel like the odd man out who didn't enjoy the Bardstown Bourbon Co Origin High Wheat...but if you like the sweeter side that might be worth a try at $50

Yes the bottle shape is identical on all the Woodford special releases for at least the last several years now. It's easy to mix them up.

Eagle rare sat on shelves for $27 just a few years ago. Then when people could flip for $40 it was all gone. Not it’s back on the shelves. Same with WTRB

I’m glad the flipping has slowed down but I haven’t been buying in the last few years.

I don’t have a full bottle, unfortunately but happy to bring you a sample to Bills forthcoming game for you to try it (think you’re going too?) :)

Not bad, but it’s not quite what I was expecting. Fantastic nose but there was a slightly sour finish that was kinda off putting…not quite like the Makers Mark funk that I hate but it reminded me of that. I thought there’d be some smokiness but it was minimal bordering non-existent. It is a 6 year old bottle, so maybe it just went bad but it shouldn’t have been exposed to excessive cold/heat/light inside the store I got it from. We’ll revisit in a few weeks.

ECBP 2024 Blind Flight

#1
Nose: caramel, vanilla, oak, hints of milk chocolate, cola and just a splash of dark red fruit. Rich but not overpowering, you wouldn't think this is barrel proof.

Palate: Rich traditional sweet bourbon notes - vanilla, caramel and sweet oak. Very well balanced. Not complex but delicious.

Finish: medium to long, vanilla and sweet oak

9.0/10

#2
Nose: vanilla with a more prominent oak profile, much more proofy. Some nutty notes.

Palate: black pepper and spicy oak up front, burnt caramel, vanilla. Barrel char, a tad bitter.

Finish: medium length, all dry oak

8.1/10

#3
Nose: similar to #1, but a little brighter, no hint of chocolate. Slight "marker" note.

Palate: cola, caramel, vanilla, spicy charred oak. Excellent oily mouthfeel, legs for days.

Finish: long, spicy oak finish

8.8/10

Nose: 1 > 3 >> 2
Palate: 1 > 3 >> 2
Finish: 3>1>2

My guess:
#1 : C924
#2: A124
#3: B524

Actual:
#1 : C924
#2: A124
#3: B524

Overall, I think 2024 was a fairly solid year for ECBP, decent bottles but no crazy standouts / bangers.
