Serious Friday question. How many open bottles are you comfortable with? I own 6 (most I've ever had as I'm a recent bourbon taster). 4 of my 6 are open. Can't lie, until this new little expedition I never opened the next bottle until the last one was finished. Of course I was a single bourbon kind of guy. Always had a standard Makers Mark until I discovered 4 Roses SB. Drank through 6-8 4RSB (found a supply at $42/btl) in 2020 covid until this thread peaked curiosity.

Just asking (and avoiding starting the next work task).

I probably have 45 or so open bottles. That's my max...only because I am out of shelf space.

I have about 125 open bottles. Everything I buy gets cracked and neck chugged as soon as I get home. Sometimes sooner!

I have 87 bottles currently. I was up to about 35 open bottles, then I stopped opening them. I have got it down to 21 open bottles. I am thinking 15 or so is where I want to be.

Here is my revised list of where I would like to be:

OPEN BOTTLES

1. A HITTER (Pappy, GTS, WLW, ER17, 4 Roses LE, Stagg Jr, etc)
2. Weller SR or 107 or any other Weller
3. EHT Small Batch or any other EHT
4. 1792 (BiB, or small batch, or FP, or 12 year)
5. Old Forester (Statesman or 1897 or 1920)
6. A high end Beam product like Booker’s
7. A 2nd Beam product....Knob Creek (SB or 12)
8. Noah's Mill or something similar/unique/craft
9. A Hitter Rye (to sip, like Alberta, MWND etc)
10. A rye (to mix when the rye is the star, ie. Old fashioned)
11. A rye (to mix when rye is not the star…like with coke)
12. MGP (something with MGP like Smoke Wagon, Belle Meade, Remus Reserve etc)
13. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof or Larceny BP
14. An additional Barrel Proof (Wild Turkey etc)
15. Lower proof and Nice like Blanton’s or Eagle Rare
16. The Latest Greatest Special Whatever (optional)

40ish opened and about a dozen unopened - and the only reason why those are unopened is because they're back-ups of open bottles. My philosophy on booze is the same as chips - they're meant to be used, not just sit on the shelf! :D

Oh yeah, backups...about 30-40 unopened. Because why have 2 opened expressions, unless they're true single barrels...

You're a better man than I, no way I could remember all that. I've resorted to creating a little google sheet with my list (including what I'm looking for), so I always have it on hand in case I drop by a liquor store.

Well, it took a while, and I did it by visualizing my cupboards. Then putting them in alphabetical order. I'm pretty sure I'm still missing a few, but I can only confirm the 8-10 that are here in Brooklyn. The others are at the strategic whisk(e)y and chip reserve upstate.

Has anyone here tried Four Roses limited edition small batch? My local store has a few bottles, but at $150 retail it seems a little steep.

That's super rare to find, David. I have had a few releases that I loved. Haven't tried the 2020 or 2019 yet.
