Got this highland park 12 a few months ago. Tried it and hated it. It had an overpowering perfumey smell and taste, and after taste.
Well, after mixing several drinks for friends with it over the past few months, I decided to give it another try tonight.
I absolutely love it now. The perfumey notes are gone and it is so good

High West DR DOWN! The reason I am excited about that is that I get to crack that Pikesville. After having some rye whiskey that has changed the way I think about rye (Kentucky Owl, Alberta - both amazing) I am so excited to try the Pikesville and soon the Peerless Small Batch. I have had samples of the Peerless SB and it was VERY GOOD. I can't wait to find other outstanding ryes....maybe I drop $500 on Whistlepig Boss Hog VII?? I might, because why the f*ck not? You only live once....

Cheers!

Pikesville is good, and makes a great Old Fashioned.

I saw the peerless on the shelf and passed. Maybe I should have picked it up? Next time

I'd like to hear any of your thoughts on Whistlepig, ANY of them (Piggyback, 10, 12, 15, 18, Bosshog VII). I have never had any of them and am VERY curious.

I cannot comment on the WPs, but I have had friends try them and like them quite a bit. They have switched from sourced product to mostly in house product recently, with mixed results.

After tomorrow I get ten days off. I will be able to comment on these shortly thereafter...

Saw a good writeup for this. At $26, I figured it was worth a shot. They had the E.H. Taylor for $54, and limited to 1 per customer, I regret not picking one up. I'm gonna give it a shot this weekend and I'll let you know.

Ok, so it wasn't my favorite, it was good and enjoyable, but it took me two days to come to that. There was a SIGNIFICANT difference between the neck pour and the second day. Neck pour was heavy licorice, almost too much. Second day pour was much smoother flavors.

I've always been a bourbon guy and have tried many quality bourbon's some far more expensive than they were worth but my all time favorite will always be Makers Mark,it's flavorful, smooth, and just the right amount of bite. I'll add I absolutely hate Crown Royal I don't understand the hype? Is it the fancy little bag it comes in? To me it's like drinking cheap perfume but to each their own.

The 101 I think will become a staple at my games. Fantastic pour for us poor folks, great value IMO but curious as to the marketing of a limited release.
Very curious about the 46CS when it comes out.

101 used to be distillery only, but Covid changed everything.
Well this is certainly for the better. It’s quickly becoming my go to. Glad it’s available. Picked up bottle #2 of FAE Tuesday, hopefully I can get #3 tomorrow.

Did you side by side the FAEs against the RC6 and last year’s LE (which I forgot the name) KC?

By the way, all those names are terrible!! LOL!!!

Not yet. But there are way more to compare with it as I have quite a few store pick styles too. I this thread is a shot over the summer where I did the previous two with two store picks.

Edit: Whoops, it was two private select styles vs the RC6 and regular 46. Apparently I haven’t done the LExx?

I was just calling RC6, FAEs and the other one LEs (Limited Editions). LOL!! Easier than those freaking letters! LOL!!

One of the bottles I purchased for immediate consumption during my long stay here in Florida was the super talked about Bladnoch 10 Limited Release. Everyone raved about that bottle a few months ago and just now I've had the chance to try it.

Popped the cork maybe two weeks ago and had one dram three different nights. Not bad at all but just a bit too bitter on the finish for me.

Then, last night, playing my online league, I had three drams of it and from the moment I tried, it was a completely different whisky (or so I think). I LOVED it! It just clicked for me. It did not taste at all like the first few times I tried it and I'm left wondering if the whisky changed this much or it was just me, just one of those mood things.

It never cease to amaze me how subjective the whole whisky experience really is... And how things are ever changing...
