I’m pretty sure this will be blasphemous to most, but I was not impressed one bit with Seagrass when I tried it. I have yet to try a finished whiskey that I really enjoyed.

I’ll see my way to the penalty box now:x

What was the proof of your bottle? I had the 118.4 which was AMAZING. Now, I have the 119.84....which I have to admit is not amazing, but still very good.

Oops. I am actually out of 119.84 atm. But it was the 118.58 that blew my mind. I have back ups of both, I will get them both open at the same time to compare....

Oh man! These are both sooo damn good. I understated the 119.84, it is delicious. I feel like I am tasting more of the rum barrel here.
The 118.58 absolutely wins though. I think I am getting more of the apricot brandy barrel on this one. They are definitely different though. The 118.58 just has more going on imo. Hits all the right notes for me!

I do kind of feel like I'm comparing a Hatori Hanzo sword to a Hatori Hanzo sword, LOL!

Went with Russell's Reserve 10. On ice. Good standard cheap pour to compare to the far better single barrels and RR13.

You had RR13 tonight? First time, or open bottle? I havent cracked mine yet. Sooo curious!

What does Port taste like? Not sure I've ever had any. I may or may not like a port finish, never had one of those either I don't recall.

It’s a dessert wine generally. From the googles:

“Port is a medium-tannin wine with notes of ripe, musky berries like raspberry and blackberry, bitter chocolate, and buttery, nutty caramel. Older ports contain concentrated notes of dried fruit, while younger ports taste of lighter-bodied red fruits, like strawberries.”

I don’t know about port, but I know that this bottle is delicious.

I’m pretty sure I had the 118.58 and I definitely got an over abundance of apricot. I would have probably enjoyed it had my bottle been one where the rum barrel was the predominant flavor over the apricot.

But it all worked out in the end. My buddy loved it and he traded me an unopened bottle of Smoke Wagon Small Batch for the Seagrass that was already down a couple of pours.

Christmas day lineup:

I've had the two Maker's barrel stave bottles sitting around for months, I'm going to start with those. The rest I know are all good :)

Both of these are super oaked (duh). For me the knod goes to the SE4, both the nose and palate have creamy vanilla/caramel notes that mesh very well with the wood, it starts full but mellow and sweet and then heats up and dries out on the super long finish. The FAE-01 is really unique, lots of dark fruit tones with some bitterness on the finish. Good but kinda all over the place and not as balanced as the 2020.

I was not a fan of the FAE-01 on first pour. However, the second half of the bottle has really evened out and is a smooth tasty dram. Enjoy!

Ok, let’s find out what all the fuss is about…

It’s so good.

I’ve already got a Christmas Eve buzz going from my seagrass bottle o_O

Dang this stuff is good

I’m curious how this Whistlepig tastes. And I can’t imagine the other can possibly live up to its billing.

Ok, tucking into this one now. The jury is still out, but I agree with @Hornet — I’m not sure if this one lives up to its billing. Right off the bat it drinks extremely hot, even compared to much higher proof ryes like THH. Very harsh to my palate.

Really interesting, "hot" was definitely not a word I'd use for the bottle I had, if anything I thought it was on the milder/sweeter side for a barrel proof rye (ie compared to something like Alberta), the apricot really came through strong.
