While I can still say it, DUECES!

2-22-22

This marks the day I was officially offered a new job. Thus, the official day I say DUECES to my former employer of nearly 30 years. (nothing against them)

I start Tuesday. I expect great things from them, and from myself. I am going to pour something nice. Raise a glass with me and help me feel good about things whiskey peeps! Cheers!!
Very nice! Good luck to you Jim! I’m tempted to pour a dram and toast to you, but I’ve got to stay strong until St. Paddy’s!

Oh! I got an update from PayPal:

We've reviewed the details of your case, and based on the information we have to date, we have denied your case. This decision was made because your billing dispute doesn't match our qualification for a billing dispute.

I will follow up appropriately of course....or shall I say with HARSH RECOURSE.

whats everyone's favorite to introduce people who aren't into whiskey to?
Im thinking of getting some pogues or roe & co but happy to hear suggestions!

I'm assuming you're looking for offerings on the smoother side and not super expensive but nicer, I'd say something like Eagle Rare, Maker's Mark / Buffalo Trace or maybe Blantons (if you can find it reasonably priced) for bourbon, and Macallan 12 or Balvenie Doublewood for scotch.

I usually suggest Elijah Craig or Four Roses. Both are in the $30.00 price range, both are pretty good, yet, both are completely different.

Couldn't agree more with above. I think eagle rare and/or four roses is a perfect intro, especially ER.

Knob creek 9 or wild turkey 101 can play too, although the WT name tends to add some hesitation to the intro.

I'll also recommend these. I'll almost "interview" the person first when they are a beginner and wanting to sample some bourbons. If they like spice, smooth, sweet, ect...

I start whiskey noobs with WT Rare Breed Rye. If you can’t handle the heat, GTFO, more whiskey for me!

(Kidding btw. Eagle Rare is nice, and Weller SR is cheap, smooth, mild, and inoffensive.)
For rye, I would recommend those on the sweeter vs spicy side, obviously. Sagamore, Pikesville (though 110 proof) or Nashville Barrel Rye come to mind... something along those lines. Then maybe hit them with a spice/pepper bomb for comparison.

Something Irish. Follow it up with a simple bourbon. Even something like Makers or Wild Turkey.

Doesn't need to be fancy/expensive.

Maybe try some flavored whiskies like Crown Peach or Skrewball. Hasn't worked for my wife, but at least she'll try them. She won't even sniff the straight stuff.

Something easy without a real complex taste like makers mark or buffalo trace

I guess thinking about it, like 'aren't into whisky because they don't like whisky' or 'aren't into whisky because they haven't ever really had whisky'?

Skrewball is funny. Mix it with chambord and it's a PB&J, mix it with godiva and it's a Reese's peanut butter cup.

Crown Peach I've heard is impossible to find. I've been in local stores on numerous occasions where people have come in asking for it and they've been told it's sold out state wide.

I would go with Basil Hayden or even Crown Royal Reserve. They are 80 proof and smooth, very easy to drink. The Crown Reserve is almost too easy.

on the side of 'aren't into whisky because they haven't ever really had whisky'?

ill have a squiz at the bottle'o for some of these, aussie tax is killer with alcohol esp. spirits

you know what i'd done the complete un-american thing and forgot about bourbon entirely. a nice bottle of bourbon and poker with the lads sounds great actually.

i can actually pick up a Basil Hayden at my local, never had that before might go for it.

I hated the horizon. If you like it let me know. I have 3 more

I know :D So I actually only grabbed that one because of the polarized reviews I've seen, I was curious to give it a shot. Well that and it was only $30, so if it sucks it'll get mixed with some Diet Dr. Pepper lol

I only got through my bottle by telling myself that I could not drink from any bottle I liked unless I had one pour of the horizon bottle I didn’t like.

I’m currently doing the same thing with the Blue Run golden rye. Not my thing
