Excited to see a 12yo Cask Strength Clynelish in the official line-up. Bummed the Laga 12CS will not be the tried and true ex-burbon maturation next year. After so many years, they could have continued with that release and maybe have the above as an additional one? It's good to have a OB Laga12 in a different maturation, Virgin Oak, though... I'll miss the 12CS, that's for sure...

Yeah, it's been what 3 years running for 12 year CS Lagavulin finished the same way. They are good, but I respect them trying something a bit different. Especially Lagavulin where it's like 'we sell 16, want something different, we have distillers edition...' The 8 for the anniversary and then the offerman editions I think have been not the biggest audience and for the most part was just a younger version of the same recipe.

Drink what you like and like what you drink! Same for lots of things like great food and cigars. There's no "one size fits all". No need to force it

I find myself bouncing back and forth on bourbon, rye & scotch with the occasional irish whiskey mixed in. The japanese whiskeys are OK but usually overpriced imho, so I typically steer clear of those. Currently in more of a rye zone at the moment.

Though.....

Booyah, finally found me some A122

Totally worth the wait, this is one of their best recent offerings. Possibly better than anything from 2021.....

It's wild for me to say this as I have gone ham buying scotch, but I feel like I don't have deep enough pockets to get into Japanese.

Yes, 3 years of the new artsy label but, the 12 year old cask strength has been an yearly special release since 2002, so 21 editions always in ex-bourbon casks.

But I agree with you. I'm on board with different finishes/maturations and even ages. My only gripe is to NOT have my favorite Lagavulin ( the 12CS in ex-bourbon) in 2023, lol!!! I'm sure the Virgin Oak will be a good one though...
