Went to the shop "Cognac Only" in Bordeaux this afternoon. Realized that I'd never tasted an XXO Cognac before, and had to fix that. Still don't know if they have a hard definition beyond marketing.

Tasted an advance bottling of this one, which will be a steal when and if it arrives in quantity at this price:

Tasted this one from a 1/3 empty bottle. Absolutely spectacular but subtle, and I had a couple of extra 50 Euro bills that I was going to take home anyway :

Could only dream of tasting this one, but it's not available right now. It's a blend of the two vontages:

too much....not that great.. I bought this first and swore off all barrell bourbons. until i tried seagrass

As much as I love Seagrass, I can't even bring myself to spend $250 on the gray label.

This one is a hard pass, unless I find a group of friends willing to split a bottle.
