do a tasting at the distillery. the sagamore cask strength and private barrel selections are great.

old forester 100 rye
pikesville
knob creek single barrel rye
rare breed rye

are all in your price range
That’s the plan. Hit up Sagamore and Guiness one weekend.

Ok, since everyone is fresh off Fryeday-

Which 4 bottles should I buy for a rye tasting? Not looking to break the bank with these guys ($20-$60 range).

Last time I focused on how an Irish Whiskey distiller was doing different things, so I’m flexible on the theme. (The Heaven Hill video above would be a similar option- 3 takes on the same distillate.)

Probably want to include a Sagamore as they’re right up the road (Double Oak?).

Edit: updated language to clarify this is a rye tasting.
Willett 4 year rye
Alberta Premium Cask Strength rye (just above your price range but oh so good)

I heard a few fell off of a truck that was passing through Jersey... Found one for $60!

@Saoliver I'm curious how you think that EC compares to other examples such as toasted and barrel proof. I've been skeptical to go for a store pick just because the actual normal releases are so great.

But I know that there is a special EC 10year store pick coming in August that looks amazing! My whiskey fairy just got back from Kentucky and showed me her tasting pictures.

Every store pick I’ve had has been very good. As good as the ECBP seasonal releases or better.

But this one in particular is absolutely amazing. I have a couple bottles and will be getting a few more. I helped pick this one, and it’s also the one for which I am getting the barrel. :cool

And I do love EC Toasted as well. But it takes me about 1/3 of the bottle to like it. I’m that way with a lot of toasted and double oaked.

Sagamore double oaked is the only exception I can think of. It was great from the jump.

The first time I had ECTB it was like drinking roasty marshmallows. But over time, after being opened, I find that the deep rich flavor fades. That's why I prefer to open this bottle in good company. Poker night, fire pits, etc.

Cheers. Boilers play for the Championship tomorrow ( and the Hoosiers lose). Celebration time! Boiler up!
Yep, was hoping for an IU/Purdue rematch on a neutral court. But the Loosiers laid an egg. Purdue should tidy up an outclassed and tired Penn State team pretty easily.
