Official PCF Whisk(e)y Thread (63 Viewers)

Easily one of my favorites as well. After having been exploring the whisky world (no thanks to this thread), I recently "rediscovered" it and was reminded how much I like it.
This here was my first love, had to get two bottles since it is discontinued. Love Balvenie but now I’m dabbling into different whiskeys, peated (which I didn’t like at first) and higher proof as well. Down the rabbit hole I go

Going to open a bottle and drink tonight. My boss is a scheming, lying, smooth talking asshat, with a veneer of friendly and cool that makes him seem trustworthy. I have more principles in my pinky toe than he does in his whole body. The fun part is that he doesn't know that I know. It does me no good to let him know that I know, but it would be fun to see the look on his face if I ever told him. But I'm in the mood to sip sip. Tell me what category to open, and I will pick one and open it and sip sip - I've never had any of these:

1) A Bardstown Origin
2) A Booker's or EC Toasted Barrel
3) A 4r Single Barrel or McKenna BiB
4) A Knob Creek SB select bourbon or rye
5) An Old Forester SB BP store pick or Russell's SB store pick
6) Widow Jane 13yr or Woodford Batch Proof 118.4

Oof - 4R single maybe?

Whiskey helps everything

McKenna is ok, but unimpressive. Shelf 1, with no plans ever to buy it again. Unless it magically opens up and turns good-to-great.

(I'd like about ten of these to run out, and I will not replace them, to clear up space. The Lost Monarch and MM 101 are GEMS, and the Frey Ranch Rye is also very good, but hard to find unless you do their mail order. I put some really solid bottles on shelf 1 because I can't have the entire shelf be mediocre. Friends get to drink from shelf 2 after a bit from shelf 1. Shelf 3 I selfishly keep to myself!)

ABC marked it as 1 per customer, so I grabbed the last one. Not bad. Worried after the first sip- not a huge fan of high proof, but the second sip won me over.

(Nothing makes whiskey sell faster than saying you can’t have it.)

Let that bottle hibernate for a good month or two after it gets about half full and thank me later :cool

These open up tremendously! I’m on pour 2 from the tail end of my bottle that’s been opened for close to 5 months now and it’s incredible!

I didn't care for this at first either, it starts very hot but mellows just enough after a bit as @Billy Baroo notes above. IMHO not as good as the WT bourbon but still very tasty.

I’ll add it to my bourbon list, but I think it might be a while before I buy another bottle- I have too many on hand.
