@joeyshin I’m speechless

I hate my county. Today saw EHT single barrel. He wanted $479. $279 for small batch. Most places want $200 for small batch. I won’t pay over $80. Every non-standard offering around here is marked up 5-10x retail. Sucks

if you join the facebook bourbon group for the DMV area the EHT SB sells for $100

Redwood Empire Devils Tower

Nose: Fantastic nose, very rich and sweet, dark cherry, black grape and vanilla notes complement the rye. The kind of nose where you just want to stick your nose and breath it all in lol

Palate: Follows through from the nose, rich dark fruit (and raspberry!), warm vanilla and caramel mid-palate, then the spicy rye follows shortly after. Chewy mouthfeel, it coats very well. Wonderful balance.

Finish: Dries a bit with more rye on the finish, the longer it sits the more the barrel char comes through. The finish is more subtle than the nose or palate but it lightly clings on for a good while.

This is really nice, definitely something a little different. I think I'm going to head back and grab a backup tomorrow.

I know these can be hit and miss. But when one hits....

This one fucks. I cracked this last night just for a quick whiff, and went back and bought another on just the nose lol. Incredible cherry vanilla coke on the nose, spicy Dr pepper on the palate that quickly yields to a cranking oak and barrel char. Dries and finishes for days....

No banana?

Its funny, for as distinct as vanilla and banana can be, when they're dialed up and very strong, I feel like they get closer, especially when mixed in with more sugary flavors.

It's close on this one, I wouldn't argue with someone who got banana. But my initial reaction was it was on the darker and richer side, less pungent and acetoney, if I'm making sense. I feel like I get more distinct banana out of offerings like JDBP and 1792 BiB/FP.

Edit to add: I know many of these Old Forester SBBS have banana nut bread names of all sorts, but the two best bottles I've ever had in this line were different. The best one had crazy leather and spicy tobacco notes, sooooo good.

This is what I love about these. I commonly experience what you've described here

the two best bottles I've ever had in this line were different

That being said, I've sampled plenty of others and I've had one of these that was pure strawberry. It was wild, but absolutely delicious... also very unexpected coming off the other profile

Was going to ask your thoughts on this year. It’s new source, so very different than the older acts.

If I remember correctly, Scott, up to act 6, MWND was a blend of old Barton Rye and MGP. Act 6 is the first to have HW's own Rye distillate in the mix. Act 7 and beyond has no old Barton distillate, only MGP and HW and the proportion has been steadily moving towards HW's own distillate.

So has the MGP sourcing been replaced by some other distillery's? I haven't seen anything on that front yet... But then again, haven't focused too much on Ryes and Bourbons to be fair...

Yeah, I forget all the details. Something has definitely changed, as this year seemed to be readily available everywhere. Was just on the shelves in NH, not even in the allocated draw

Agreed. I still like it more than Act 10. But it isn’t as good as some of the older Acts, suppose, but I haven’t side-by-sided it with any of the others.

Yup, this is the one I have and it's a no doubter on the banana.
