This is delicious. Your eyes will sting from the heavy alcohol before every sip. But, it’s delicious

I've never had the Middleton Very Rare, but I would take Redbreast CS 12 over a Red Spot - both outright and also taking into account I can buy 2 to 3 RBCS12 for the one bottle of Red Spot. Blue Spot, on the other hand, that'd be a toss up.....Over Red Spot and the Midleton Very Rare series? Without even tasting them? I don't think so...
I thought about picking one up last week and reached for the 15 instead. Good to know that it's got the @Irish approval!I've had my eye on this one for a while - Glendronach Portwood. Really really good, layers and layers of red fruit and honey with an interesting kinda spicy background. The kind of bottle I could kill over the weekend..... all by myself.

You can't go wrong with any JD SBBP bottle. Great price point too!Fantastic pour!! I honestly think the rye is better than the whiskey but I’m then again, I’m a ryeboi
Gotta love 135 proof! Highest proof I’ve personally seen was 134.something

Retail and retail.$300 and $225?

That sounds freakin' amazing. I never seem to taste all these glorious notes that everyone else does. LOL. But I really should buy my first bottle of Irish. I know you did a long post back a few months ago, but I'm lazy. What's the best bottle of Irish, in your opinion, for an Irish whiskey beginner. Say around or under $60ish. And how much is this bottle?I will reserve "final" judgment for a second tasting, but first sip of this is fucking amazing. Rich, creamy home churned vanilla bean ice cream drizzled with luxardo cherry sauce, with just a sprinkle of toffee syrup and cinnamon and spice. I think I like this even more than the Kentucky Oak edition.......
I was the one who asked the same question as you did, so I’ll chime in.That sounds freakin' amazing. I never seem to taste all these glorious notes that everyone else does. LOL. That Missouri Oak retails at $199 and it appears that it fetches north of $300 on secondary…I’d love one but I doubt I’ll ever see one here and I won’t pay secondary prices like that.
Thank you. I was looking over the offerings on the TW web site after I posted my question last night. I did put both the Green Spot and the Redbreast 12 on my watch list, but was a bit turned off by the fact that both are only 40% abv. I typically ignore almost everything at this proof point in all other whiskey. I do see that the Powers bottle is 46%, and slightly lower in price, so I will probably start there.@JustDave provided some great feedback on that here:

You may need to raise that bar just a tad. In that mid-range grade ($60-70), my top recommendations would be:
Green Spot is the most interesting of the 3, but its very unique. IMHO the other two are a little more representative of a "typcial" irish profile.
- Green Spot
- Powers John's Lane 12 year
- Redbreast 12 year
The jump to the next level ($100-$130) gets much more refined and individual, largely because the of varied cask finishings. Yellow Spot and RB 15 are both excellent and imho worth the price tag. But don't start there, work your way up, you'll appreciate them more when you get there
I found this one at my favorite local for $150. Many will balk at the price tag because it doesn't have an age statement. And I get that, but it doesn't personally bother me too much, and I use the Spots vs RB as a good example. I find Yellow Spot (12 year) compares closer to RB15 (and priced as such), the additional cask finishings make a big difference. And that seems to be the case with these RB American cask series offerings.
It's not a $300 bottle, and $200 is a big stretch for MSRP. I'd prefer it be in the $115-$130 like the last one, but even at $150 I may grab a backup because I'm a Redbreast whore lol. It's really good.
My go to local has all three of those at the moment. Green Spot is $75, RB12 is $83 and John’s Lane is $71 before tax.

Ouch! My Total Wine has all three in stock. The Powers is $59, and the other two are just over $65.My go to local has all three of those at the moment. Green Spot is $75, RB12 is $83 and John’s Lane is $71 before tax.
My question is how common is the John’s Lane? My local has it but I’ve yet to see it anywhere else since I started thinking about trying Irish back in March. I’ve probably been in 9-10 different stores since then. RB12 and GS are at every store I walk into. I’m pretty bad when it comes to FOMO
We can’t purchase spirits anywhere but state run liquor stores here…and they’re closed on SundaysI've had good luck getting green spot at Costco for $48
