Round 2View attachment 1344924I know these have a bad reputation for having more than their fair share of duds, but when you get a good one…whoa momma!

I opened this last year on Memorial Day and it just keeps getting better. Back to hibernation until Thanksgiving or possibly my birthday in August.

I have had one small pour. I loved it. It is outside of my bourbon budget.

I am enjoying a pour of Angel Envy.

Michter's Rye is my favorite lower proof rye for sipping. For higher proof, we all know how good Old Overholt 10 year is. So when I saw a couple YouTube videos recommending A. Overholt Monongahela Mash, I figured I had to try it. And why not compare it heads up to the Michter's.

Fairly striking color difference. I don't believe either have an age statement, but maybe this Michter's spent longer in the barrel? MUS1 has always seemed sweeter than most ryes to me. The AO has a more traditional spiciness. I really liked the AO, especially with a bit higher proof, and about $10 a bottle cheaper. It's not better than the Michter's, just different and a nice value.

What do you think? Worth the wait?
Ha, I've waited years for bottles, so 4 months was EZ-PZ  :ROFLMAO:

This hit the spot for what I was looking for last night: a nice, classy, easy sipper. It was late and I was still pretty beat after cleaning up all day on Saturday and knew this wouldn't be a very focused / discerning session, so I didn't want something really punchy and over the top. First impressions of this are very mellow; there is likely a good deal of subtle complexity buried in here, I was just too tired to care lol. Very good and drinkable, I drank roughly a quarter of the bottle without even blinking lol. I'll reserve further comment for a follow-up session.

Me, Monday morning:

Damn there are a bunch of great leftover bottles from the meet-up. No way I should be buying anything beyond a B524 bottle or two all summer.

Me, Monday evening, stopping by a random local looking for a B524:

And???

It’s not listed in stock anywhere in NC yet, but it is listed on their master list of products that will be available at some point. $69.95 will be our price here IF it ever finds its way here. I’m hopeful since the Cask Strength KC Rye is what got me hooked on higher end whiskey!

It's an interesting one, but IMHO nothing like the KC cask strength ryes. Very low on more typical rye flavors, this has more "fresh" and sweet notes. I got apple, sweet caramel and vanilla with some zesty citrus notes, with a more herbal background and oak. I get just a hint of mint too, which I typically despise, but it surprisingly works here. The rye notes and spices are there, but they're much more subtle.

It's good and definitely worth the price of admission, but it's definitely different and not your standard rye.
