How’s this bottle? Have one and haven’t opened it.
It’s very good! Is it $30 better than regular Green Spot…probably not, but it is a real solid whisky. Add some additional red fruits, more spice and a touch of a longer, drying finish to regular Green and there you are. I think the Leoville Barton Green Spot, which is a Bordeaux finish, is significantly better. What they both do is really make me wish that regular Green would be presented at 46% like those two are instead of 40%. The extra proof is very evident in depth of flavor, finish and mouthfeel. I’m not mad that I bought it :)

Well, I started opening my "good" bottles. The Old Forester Barrel Strength Bourbon I posted a few pages ago is gone. It wasn't elite, but it definitely got better as I worked my way through it.

The next up was a Rare Character bourbon.....it was MEH....

I really NEEDED to open something GREAT, so I opened this....(and it is FANTASTIC!)

How was this?
Just having my second taste here post-dinner.

I’m a relative neophyte when it comes to whisky, so I probably lack the words and experience to give a description justice, but I like it.

Nose is very vanilla forward - definitely gives of the “ice cream” vibe it’s going for.

I got very strong vanilla/caramel flavour on my palate as well with some nice spice that I struggle to describe accurately with some woodiness. The wood flavour seems to linger for while.

I wish I still had a bottle of the 16 year Nectar to compare this to, but I feel like I prefer the Nectar based on my memory.

Again, I’m just really getting into whisk(e)y, but this is a nice dram. Will be curious to come back to it in a few months once I have the chance to try more and other whisk(e)ys.

I can’t remember if you’ve had that before. Maybe I sent you a sample? What are your thoughts?
It’s fantastic! I think you sent me a sample of the Hardin’s Creek. This bottle of KC18 is the only taste of it I’ve had. @gopherblue hooked me up with this bottle

The Hardin’s Creek was pretty special too!

Best nose ever for me…Old Forester 1924

Yep Reaction GIF

KC18 is damn close though. Very close. Especially batch 2. I just wish both were 10-15 points higher in proof. Though of course then they'd be twice the price and l'd never see them on the shelves lol

View attachment 1479239Little pre St. Paddy’s pour. Not a huge fan of regular Bushmills but this one is nice! The Bordeaux finish and bump in ABV makes this really enjoyable.
I have a bourbon and sherry cask version of this that isn't bad, but haven't been able to find the Bordeaux cask version, this consistently gets really nice reviews.

I saw this and thought I remembered seeing it in Whiskey Advocate’s top 20 of 2024. The higher ABV (46.3) is what caught my eye initially.

It’s really good! It reminded me of the Bordeaux finished Green Spot that I have.
