I agree, diving, faking contact and injuries are embarressments of the game. Fucking primadonnas. They should come down on these things much harder, especially now when there is access to VAR.
Amen!
Women’s football has not yet been infected or, maybe, they are just tougher than the ”men” and it won’t go there.
I consider my self a feminist, but in this case I don't believe it has to to with toughness. There's just not enough money in womens football to warrant diving. The "sport" side of things still outways financial reward. If women start making the same kind of money as men, they'll be diving just the same.
Related: Sometimes I hear people saying "it wouldn't look like this if hockey/rugby/[insert tough sport] players played football!"
No, not at first! But if they want to make it into the big leagues and make some real money then you better believe they'll start diving!
Fact: The football rule book forces you to dive!
Don't believe me? So when was the last time you saw a player with a scoring chance get slighty kicked on the chin, slightly lose balance, slightly lose his opportunity to score, and get awarded a free kick/penalty? Never? That's why you have to fall if you want justice served!
I'm thinking football should adopt the hockey way for penalties and close free kicks: Let the player try to score, and if he doesn't, then award the penalty or free kick. That, and vigilant VAR, would remove a lot of diving.
+ let the teams challenge decisions just like eagle eye in tennis!
It’s not safe to celebrate a single goal anymore because you know someone with a fking magnifying glass has to review the footage first.
That's a fair consideration. But, it has to be weighed against all the action and the number of goals we've seen that wouldn't have been goals before. Heck, since offside was called instantly before, we wouldn't even see the ball go into the net! Like the fantastic lobb the other day (Senegal?). It was CLEARLY offside, everyone knew it! Until VAR showed it wasn't. We would never had seen that lobb with the old rules!
I have hope for VAR. It's been used way better 2022 vs 2018
