The reality is that Southgate needs to go, he wins the games he should and loses the rest.

The squad is as good as any in the world, so they aren't really wrong. Also doesn't help that Harry Kane got all spursy when it mattered lol.

Absolutely spot on. If he can't win a trophy with this squad, then he really shouldn't be managing them in the first place.
 
damnit i tried so hard to avoid spoilers to watch the game with my kid when he got home, then he runs in and tells me the neighbor kid shouted out the result on the bus.

so i angrily fast forwarded until i found the goals. messi's assist on their 3rd goal was filthy.

All yellow cards are discarded after the quarter finals, i.e. it's a clean slate for the semis. This to avoid players being suspended in the finals for picking up a yellow in the semis.

I've seen a lot of headlines about this. It's because they were freerolling! A single yellow doesn't do anything in a quarter final (unless you have one from a previous game) since the semis bring a clean slate.

Like during the penalty shootout, the Netherlands sent forth players with no previous bookings to talk smack to each Argentinean that was about to shoot and got a lot of bookings for it. Risk free!

Ahhhh - crap. I can’t say I’m not disappointed, I was really rooting for Croatia. But, in all fairness, Argentina was clearly the better side today.

Same here, I was kind of hoping for tears again or at least, an exciting game. But I surrender, Messi really showed he’s number one. Argentina played a great game and I’ll be rooting hard for them in the final.
 
Half time and here on BBC in the UK do we see a discussion about the game and what could happen on the second half? Yeah a wee bit.

Do we then see a long discussion about how England almost won the World Cup and were “so close”. Then on to should the manager resign. The answer is obviously”no” as this England team will be among the favourites to win the next one.

They are beyond deluded.


Did the BBC have a post mortem like this when Wales got knocked out? Did they fuck!!
 
Thoughts on the bronze medal game?
Both are small countries who would (or at least should) cherish a bronze medal. But since Croatia got the silver last time I'm thinking that they are more gutted than the Moroccans. I think the latter want it more so my money's on them.
 
It’s a toss up, I could see it going either way. It’s been a grueling several games for Croatia, might come down to how much they have left in the tank (emotionally and physically).

Morocco is going to go all out for sure.

This may in fact be the better game to watch - lol. France vs Arg may be a defensive stand off to see who gets the one opening that counts.
