Online Home Poker (4 Viewers)

We are using Stars, have some minor complaints about the rake; seems to take a Buy-in or better out of play. Good chunk of get Skype running though, and it's as well as can be expected.

Actually think we will have more players for our home game, as the friends, of friends circle grows.

Occasionally, a player on a bad connection will not see the action change to them. Doing a table refresh fixes it. Only happens on really bad connections (like their zoom video looks like 8-bit Mario).

Have you customized any of the server connection settings?

Nope, haven't change anything out of the ordinary. Set up aws exactly as was in file. Didn't know if there's something on my end while setting up aws that's blocking his connection and preventing a stable connection

Typically if only one or two people have problems, it's on them not you. Poker Mavens uses websockets for commination. This is quite different from other stuff like Netflix and email, so people saying it's you because "their other internet is fine" might not be accurate.

On a poor connection, a broken websocket can caused missed events which would lead to some of the behavior you're seeing.

Look at the PM server and make sure you have max idle minutes set to 0.

Yep, it's at 0. Thanks for the input

We played 2 tables tournament + 1 cash game at the same time tonight. Running on a t2.micro on AWS, we only had 1 issue with the same person who had bad internet. No other issues - it was smooth.

Some of my players have had issues when playing on Chrome. I suggested using Firefox or Edge, and haven’t heard of any issues since.

Closing and reopening the browser, or clearing the browser cache can also fix a multitude of issues.

I have over 60 active players. Those with issues is 100% on their wifi. The server is solid, my connection has never dropped. This whole stay at home shit is really showing who has bad internet/WiFi.

I played on a site called Poker Now last night and I would recommend giving it a try if you have a group of people wanting to play. One of you hosts the game and sets the chip and blind amounts, and that person can also be the bank (using venmo) for everyone's buy ins. Not a ton of unrealistic run outs from what I've seen so far and from what my friends who play on it more have told me. For bonus, if you want to add an element of live play to the game, use zoom, google hangouts, or FaceTime so you can see and chat with your friends.

Looks like there's no way to have blind structure?

We just played cash where you can set the blinds beforehand. From my understanding, you can change the blinds in the middle of the game as the host, so if you were doing tournament play, you would just have to set some sort of a timer (on your phone or something) for when the blinds need to change and then do it manually as the host.

Just a heads up about rebuys in Poker Mavens - the rebuy period ends at the end of the specified level, even it that occurs in the middle of a hand. So a player may be surprised to find that he can't rebuy if he busts in the last hand of the rebuy period.
I just had a player get super bitchy with me about this on Thursday. It'd be nice if it paused like poker stars, but it doesnt.
You've seen this confirmed? I would have hoped that if the hand started before rebuy ended, anyone who busts at the end of the hand would be given the option. I get that if there's a chip threshold, they wouldn't get the option if rebuys ended and they still have chips left (even if it's below the threshold). But if you bust out, it's mega lame you can't rebuy.
That's... Just... Awful! I'm going to have to run a tournament with 1-minute blinds to see it for myself. Kent's gotta fix that!
I asked the question in the support forum. His response was that the rebuy clock is associated with the game clock, not the hand. So no fix planned at this time.
I just upgraded to Pro and ran my first MTT last night, and lo and behold: at the end of the last rebuy level a message popped onto the screen saying something to the effect that the rebuy period will end at the end of the hands being played, and that the tables will pause until all current hands are finished.

I posted on the PM Support Forum, and Kent replied that his earlier answer was incorrect, and that rebuys are possible at the end of the hand.

Not being able to rebuy at the end of the hand may be an issue only during STT, or only with Lite. @MrCatPants, which version did you experience this on?

Pro. It didnt pause. I wonder if theres a setting for that, or if I just have to have it coincide?

We saw this as well on Friday. I actually let the clock count down on my action in order to let people on the other table buy back in.

Once everyone was good, my tables action finished and it immediately posted in the chat that rebuys were over. So if someone had busted at my table would it have given them the choice?

It happened like that to me with 6.15 Lite, now I'm on Pro 6.17. I know there was a change in 6.16 that fixed an issue with the add on being synced to breaks. Also you have to set time sync to No for breaks to be synced to levels and not the system clock. This first game I had sync set to No, this last game it was set to Yes because some players wanted the breaks at x:55 "just like P*". Perhaps that is a clue?

We had one player with known poor internet have an issue seeing hole cards. Everyone else had zero issues over multiple games. I think he is on dsl or something.

Ok I just received an email about getting close to hitting the 30 GB-month limit for Elastic Block Storage. My VM has a 30 GB volume and I have been using it for about a month so that makes sense. Other than turning the VM on and off to play - anyone have any ideas how to address this? Or the cost to keep using the storage for per month?

Edit: looks like $3 per month for the storage volume attached to the VM. Maybe I will switch to an elastic IP and shut down when not in use.

As long as you're not downloading gigabytes of data, I wouldn't expect you to go over the limit.

Elastic IP is a good idea in general. But i don't see why you'd get charged if you're not filling up the disk.

Is anyone using a chat service as a way for keeping in touch with and organizing players? Just wondering what is working well for others.

Looking for something better than email, less intrusive than group texts. Think a chat room that allows instant conversation, low forced notifications, and an accessibility to an @all tag would work well for setting up games.

Slack and discord come to mind, but I have only been a participant in channels, never an organizer. Thoughts on either those platforms or other suggestions?

Both groups I'm playing in use 8x8. Pretty easy to set up, and shouldn't cost anything to host a multi-video group chat.

It’s allocated storage per month. We get 30gb allocated for one month. After that there is a charge.
I've been up and running over a month and have had no storage issues. I'm sitting at 45% disk usage. It's a Windows machine writing text files. What's taking up your storage?

it is the 30 GB storage volume for the VM. 30 GB is allocated to the volume and we get 30 GB/month free for 1 month if you read the fine print. Just got an email today that I'm running out of free t2.micro VM usage too. So next month looking at $15/month so will switch to elastic IP and turn it off when not in use.

Looks like the free limits they give you are enough. See my actual and forecast. Keep in mind it's day 28/30

Thank you very much! How can I possibly be using more than you do - I have one game a week for 5 hours! I play on your site more than that!

Also I think I misunderstood the info accompanying the alerts - looks like free is indeed free. Appreciate the help. Now to try and turn off those alerts!

I have been using Pokerrrr 2 for about 5 weeks. Started with 15ish player tournaments. Now play cash. All with a group of home game friends.
I just wanted to mention that Pokerrrr 2 seems to have resolved any connection issues. It was painful at weekends recently but that last couple of weeks it's been very stable, at least for my group.
We almost abandoned it forever during those few rough connection weekends.

Agreed. Pokerrr2 has resolved their issues and pretty easy for the host to settle. We switched back and have had no issues on connections

I got the same email. However, we have a game running every night. I have no idea how it is running so high.
