We have players who use tablet devices with good success, no one I know if is actively using a phone really.

You may want to look at this thread for some alternative card faces which may help you: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/poker-mavens-custom-cards.68424/#post-1380858

Otherwise how is the setup and running treating you? Best of luck.
Setup was super easy! Hardest part was learning how to do port forwarding.

I assume when I switch over, I just key in the license number and I'm good to go, albeit from a different web address. Set up my new games (since I can't set up no limit and pot limit games on Trial ver) and start rocking, right? Any players who set up IDs on the trial version are automatically set up on the paid version. Correct?

I have not personally done a conversion from Trial to Pro (we got our feet wet at Faded Spade and felt totally comfortable about going direct to Pro).

According to the Briggs Soft site, you just install the Pro software on top of the Trial and your data is retained. That is certainly how the upgrades work (just installed the 6.28 patch today and they have always been silky smooth).

I went straight to Pro and hosted on CheapWindowsVPS for $10/mo which gives more memory for the buck than Atlantic.net and setup CloudFlare for free as discussed on the poker maven support forums. It was surprisingly easy. I used http://pokertables.niestudio.com/ and replaced the 1980's table graphics.

I just setup Johnathan's custom cards from https://github.com/jonathan-hurley/poker-mavens (there is another thread on that here->https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/poker-mavens-custom-cards.68424/) and it is pretty slick!

@TX_Golf_N_Poker we upgraded from the light version to the pro version. It is just as simple as being able to reinstall the pro version on top of the light version and add the license. You have to install pro over lite, but it's painless and preserves are your info.

One thing that you might want to do is tell your players to add the site as a home screen icon. When you add it as a home screen icon it opens up in the browser in full screen mode which gives them a little bit more space on the screen.

Thanks everyone! Unfortunately, I have to go out of town for a week, so I will wait to set everything up in a licensed version when I return. Appreciate all the assistance and suggestions!

This is a MUST, in my opinion, as it makes a world of difference if you or your players plan to play on an iOS device. Personally, I think the best way is to play on a PC.

My site is up and running!!! Thanks all for your help!

hmmmmm "Friendly Hold'em"...... that's a good way to lure in the fish! :ROFLMAO:

Congrats - coming from someone who is not terribly tech savvy, it was a huge relief when I finally got my site up and running, lol. Have fun, Mavens is a great platform.

I don't remember it being so bad to get it running :)

Psychology... :D And look at the stakes. Pretty friendly. This will be our main game until the group wants to step it up. I'm also thinking about having a .02/.04 game that I'll call CRAP! - I'm Broke! for when you have less than $5 in your account. :ROFLMAO:

Speaking of getting it running. We played some funny money games the first week I had the trial system up. I was going through the settings this morning when I noticed that I had populated the "Starting Primary Balance" field with 1000! EEEEEEK! Glad I caught that before any new members set up their accounts! I did remember to zero out all the existing balances before I played a few real money hands last night with two of my kids.

Any other settings you experienced admins think I should go back and address?

A couple off the top of my head.

Under System > Server Settings : Allow Duplicate IPs. Verify this is Yes if you are a friendly game and you expect some people (spouses, children, etc.) to be playing from the same place.

I believe that sets the default for individual Ring Games, but you should check those individual settings, too, for each Ring game. Otherwise they get a message "A player with your IP address is already seated at <table name>." Which is descriptive in terms of why they are not allowed to take a seat but not helpful in terms of fixing it.

For some casual folks the Showdown seconds can be kind of fast (especially if you play split pot games). You can change that from the default of 2 seconds under System > Client Settings.

Log Rotation:
I set the retention to 0 so that it doesn't delete logs. Logs are the only way to prove shit happened :)

I personally let accounts go negative b/c I know everyone who plays. Without it, I was finding players were like $1 short and couldn't rebuy into a tourney. Since everyone settles up with me weekly, it's fine. But this is a very personal setting; use with caution.

Also, don't forget to change your avatars :)

Thanks. Yeah, my group is tight too, so once we get going I will consider negative balances.

So what sort of thing could happen where you would need to go back more than 30 days? Just thinking any dispute is going to either be brought up immediately, or forgotten about.

Yes, most disputes are brought up right away. But, say, you wanted to check and see how much players spend over time or you wanted to check the results of the tournament from 2 months ago...

Or you wanted some sick player stats over time ...

@BearMetal I don't think I can do custom avatars with the Lite version. Will it be available when I upgrade to Pro, or do I have to go all the way to Gold?
It's in Pro; I had forgotten you were on Lite. Yes, Pro has 99% of the features you need. The only thing you're really missing is the ability to remove Poker Mavens branding.

Baby steps. I was going to go straight to Pro, but several people I thought were going to be all over this are dragging their feet. I only have 10 or 11 committed users right now, so not really any need yet for Pro. Worst case scenario people start dropping off and the site dies, I'm only out $40.

I get that ... we started off with Lite but were on Pro within 1 month. I asked our members for a voluntary contribution of $5 to cover the cost of the upgrade. 90% did it and we were in business. If people want poker safely, this is what's around for now ...

And since Duffy turned me onto StickerMule (freaking Duffy), now I get to send some neat swag to my original members for their contribution.

Bear -

Is that a screenshot from a report generated from MavensTools? Looks great!

Haha, no; I wrote a bunch of scripts to process the PM data and produce some static HTML pages. I'm looking into making this kind of stuff open to everyone, but wrapping it up in a neat little package takes time.

Excited to see how it turns out. Either way great job!

Have you made it a GitHub project?

Very cool! Please post here when it's available.

I have my entire PM site managed on GitHub in a private repo. My current files are an embarrassing mis-mosh of bash grep/awk/sed/gnuplot along with some python for advanced regex. It's slow and tightly coupled to my own needs.

I'm currently working on a plan to parse/dump all of the tourney/hand files into a database so that:
  • my queries run faster
  • I can generate a lot more stats
  • I can make everything public
... but life gets in the way.

More recently, I added stack size plots auto generated after every tournament:
