PCF Cigars (9 Viewers)

El Rico Habano @RowlettTexasChipGuy is a blast from the past! I was transported back to 1996 and El Credito cigar factory in Little Havana, going through the negotiations with Ernesto's daughter. There was a routine you had to go through if you wanted to buy LGC's back then that involved a back and forth of "we're out of La Gloria's" to, "we may have a few ready to go, but, we've got El Rico's." I could usually secure a fair amount of La Gloria's if I'd take enough bundles of El Rico. The El Rico petite corona became one of my favorite smokes back then. I'd LOVE to stumble across some tucked away in a humidor, I'd consider that a great day!

The blend for the Soiree is:
AGED DOMINICAN FILLERS, AGED DOMINICAN BINDER, COLORADO/NICARAGUAN WRAPPER

I think you hit it on the head for P.G. in general, very well constructed, some with a just ridiculous amount of age on them(I picked up one just yesterday that were rolled 20 years ago and aged in house), and some very aged tobacco before it's rolled. I know they roll at the davidoff factory, I don't know if they were being blended by Eladio Diaz but Paul Garmian picked those based on his preference. When I've talked to him, his son or the guy who runs the day to day in the shop since the mid 90s, they would call that a full bodied cigar... I think they are baselined around a much older flavor profile before NCs became popular and big bold flavors were all the rage.

I'm not surprised you aren't blown away but I hope you enjoyed it. I find them to just be very well done, if not overly exciting sticks. The other one is Dominican filler and binder with a Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper.

@joeyshin do I remember that you like the Artisan series? I think those are even lighter? I don't know how they compare to other modern 'light' cigars.
Certainly enjoyed it! And enjoyed something new.

The American boutique world has certainly moved more and more towards heavier (and larger) sticks. RoMa, DT&T, Liga (not boutique), LFD, My Father, Plasencia all use steadily more broadleaf and more ligero. I think it’s also the influence of how effective the operation is in Nica which can get you the really heavy ligero. I’d say compare even the AF Shark when it won to most of the other stuff AF was doing in the years preceding that and you see that it’s a larger more full bodied stick. The Bull too.

I can’t remember. Whichever ones you gave me I thouroughly enjoyed. I went to the shop and bought about 10 different ones. Different sizes and series and enjoyed all of them. I did not try any of their anniversaries but they’re suppose to be stellar.

You’re right about the aging. They age in-house I think a minimum of 8? Years. That’s one of the reasons they’re not as spicy and are really mellow. Some of them are aged a lot longer. The mellow body and the superb construction made me a fan. I think they start at $8/stick and can up to $25?/stick. I tried several in the $10-15 range and all burned perfectly. I can’t remember which one but it held it’s ash until I was done.

Much better smoke having been in my humidor for nearly 2 years.

*Also, the closest I'll get to 15 cigars in one day is this pile of ashes I just swept up :D

I need to leave sticky notes for myself on what I buy from them because it's kinda crap labeled and I never know what anything is.

Ok, so my birthday is Friday. I normally celebrate with a Padron and some of my top shelf bourbon.

What stick should I try to find to smoke to celebrate turning 39?

Should have told me sooner i would have sent you some bourbon and a cuban

Honestly, it's kinda snuck up on me. My partner quit about a month ago so I've been working my ass off, not to mention we went on a cruise and now we've started hockey practices again so my birthday's kinda taken a back seat!

Hmm, I always love an af shark to celebrate but that’s not easy to find. I would honestly rec a pardon a lot of the time if someone asked. Have you had San Cristoball? The better ones are great and easy to find

I love me some AF's! I have not had a San Cristobal but I'm always down to try new smokes!

Gurkha cellar reserve 18. Really good, medium to full body. Woody with sweet buttery almond and subtle cocoa notes. Pairs extraordinary well with a good sweet and spicy bourbon.
