PCF Cigars (11 Viewers)

It is with a very, very heavy heart that I'm having to unwatch this thread, folks!

Had a pretty bad health scare recently; was in hospital for the best part of a week, and still got a while to go until full recovery.

It was a chest and lung-related issue, so not the wisest idea to carry on smoking (even though I've still got about 30 cigars left).

Getting notifications on this thread will be too much of a heartbreaker, so will just stick to poker chips and steak, hahah. Happy smoking!

Sounds like the smart move, best of luck for a speedy recovery

Calm Friday night called for a Siglo 6 from the 2010 jar and a Pokerstars session. Wish everyone a great weekend

Found a strange bug in my ashtray. Then found another one. Looked up cigar beetles and it seems most are less than 3mm as described what size they are in cigars. These were a lot bigger.

I've ordered hundreds of cigars lately to keep the pace. Almost all are wrapped in cellophane. I've got some investigating to do.

Did your humidor get unusually hot for a period of time?
Nope. I keep it inside the house at 68 degrees and the humidity around 65%. Now I have been leaving my travel pack in the garage and the temp and humidity has been increasing lately.

Not sure though what cigars these might have come from.

Wow sorry to hear this. I’m paranoid and narodic when it it comes things like this. Lol! Creeps me out!

I live in so cal so it can get hot here. That’s why I had to buy a humidor that keeps temperature. I try and keep it at 62 to 64 deg fh.

Hope everything works out and they don’t creep into your whole supply. DAMN

I like to keep my cigar stash on the cold and dry side. But wow,, certainly you’re not new to this and everything that you’ve gaged seems right? I hope the rest of your collection is okay!

Interested in knowing what you find out.

Cubans or not Cubans? Freeze them upon arrival.

Non cubans
Weird. Crops in the NC world is usually treated against such things. Also they have cellophane. Bigger than a beetle. Weird as well. I have a strict zero tolerance policy. Once I had a doubt and froze all my collection (and I have more cigars than poker chips...damn two expensive hobbies). Better safe than sorry.

Any chance you just got bugs that got into where your ash tray is and they aren't coming from your cigars?

Maybe, but looking at images on the web it looks like an adult beetle. I don't have any experience with beetles before. I'm kind of wondering if the cigar butts I left in the ashtray for a couple of days had larvae and they grew, but searching on this it doesn't seem possible they could grow that fast.

Won $7 in my cash game last night. It was cool and windy. Some cards occasionally flew off the table. Got to try my first taste of Stagg. Wow, 132 proof, but doesn't taste like it. Folded pocket 3s after a KQJ flop. Then 3 on the turn and 3 on the river showed up. Three people out of 9 showed up forgetting to bring cash. We worked it out.

I believe I sent some of these to folks in samplers. Really loving this stick. Classic full bodied from RoMa but super intense graham cracker and nutmeg notes that I would associate with a milder stick. Sumatra wrappers can be so good when done right. Also love the robusto size for a midday smoke

I'm curious too... as a botanist.
Cigar beetle is the nemesis of state herbarium collection, so they keep the plant specimen vaults coldish and low humidity.
I'll assume those conditions aren't ideal for cigars. Sounds like a tricky balance.
/ don't know much of cigars
// only time ever tried smoking was a cigar a decade ago, thoroughly enjoyed.

It’s definitely a balance. High temps can cause issues and the potential for cigar beetles. High humidity makes them spongy and leads to bad draw and burn. By the same token “too” dry can dry all the oils and flavor out and crack. I’ve had good luck with 62-64 degrees F and the same readings for humidity. Although, I try not to be too nuerotic about it. Lol!

Mail call. With $50 coupon, $3 a stick. 70 sticks total.

Based on the rave reviews of the Charter Oak here, I ordered a few robustos and they were great. The one last night was full of pepper right up my alley. So I ordered a box of toros for 60 bucks. Thank you for the recommendation.

Okay, am cigar curious now... but in Australia.
Have no idea what to get or where. Quick web search found two supposedly good online vendors offering mixed packs:

https://www.devlinsonline.com.au/collections/mixed-packs
https://cigarbox.com.au/pages/tasting-kits

Is it normal for 5-packs to sell at A$250-$350?
Think roughly US$170-$230?
Seems... excessive. Or have I stumbled on extra premium goods and the price justified?
Tobacco taxes are outrageous there. The only place I would order cigar from in Australia is Rob from FOH forum. He runs a almost daily sale on the forum. Cubans only.

Tax according to weight. So may as well smoke more of a premium cigars.

Hypotrcial number. 20 grams = 50 taxes.

Low quality price for one stick: 50+10=60

High quality cigar: 50+25=75

If I were you I'd smoke less but the best

Is that https://www.fohcigars.com/ ?
Or other? I'm blocked from that one, apparently. Not permitted from Australia.

Australia, land of no online poker, limited live poker, highest alcohol and tobacco taxes in world... yay.

That's weird. Would have bet it's Australian base website. In his sale section you always have the price for Australian and a price for everyone else. Your being 3 to 4 times more. So there must another reason you re ban there.

Yeah is weird. Says federal government legislation.

My lord that’s unbelievably high.

I don’t know anything about customs and shipping into AUS but I would think your best bet is buying from an individual and trying to dodge taxes.

Does Bond Roberts work for you? I believe is Aussie based. It’s high end Cuban auctions but looks like you’re paying through the nose anyways.

If you do some research and it looks like it’s relatively low risk to get sticks through customs and you’re willing to take the risk I would imagine folks here would be willing to hook you up. I certainly would be.
