PCF Shows (4 Viewers)

Game of thrones is a classic
The Americans is arguably a classic
Fargo is getting to classic status with another 1-2 excellent seasons imo
Louie and Veep are arguably classics too.

Better Call Saul, Justified, Silicon Valley, Hannibal, Show me a Hero, The good wife, Downton Abbey are very good shows

Some very good animated shows are out there too (Rick and Morty, American Dad, Bojack Horseman, Bob's burgers, Archer)

I would say we're still in a golden age, though some classic's that have recently expired have yet to be replaced (30 rock, Mad men, Breaking Bad,

I'm not sure the point of comparing TV quality to movie quality. With metacritic/RT/IMDB e.t.c its easy to find great movies/ TV show. Plenty of garbage movies/ TV shows to go around same as ever.

You guys are tapped trying to argue which is better Film or TV. Its like Painting vs. Photography. or Tastes great, Less filling.

I think Butler described it well in an earlier post that they are two totally different formats, and each has their strengths and weaknesses. Its pointless to argue best vs. best because "best" is always going to be subjective.

Maybe argue Daredevil the movie vs. Daredevil the series or Fargo the movie vs. Fargo the series, Entourage vs. Entourage etc. at least you'll be comparing the same premise within different mediums.

My argument isn't that television is the better medium. I actually don't believe it is. It's simply that television is better than film at the present time given the quality of each.

That said, with the three examples you gave I do believe the TV shows are/were better than the movies.

Vince Gilligan, in the TV documentary I watched last night, said MASH (TV) > MASH (movie).

So now we know which is better (from 1 guys perspective 35 years ago).

In this thread of insanity, the single most ludicrous opinion I've seen yet is that Fargo the show is better than Fargo the movie.

While I agree with @Chicken Rob in most cases that TV is better at fleshing out character over long spans of time, there isn't a single character in either season of Fargo that was fleshed out half as well as any of the leads (Frances McDormand and Bill Macy) in the film. Given that it's an otherwise competent series, I find it shocking that they had 10 hours per season and couldn't match what the Coens could do strictly in terms of character development in barely over an hour and a half.

I prefer TVs to Movies. By a lot. And despite this, Fargo the movie is so much better than the TV show I don't know how it's even a discussion. I was skeptical of the idea of even making a TV show out of such a great movie. The TV show is watchable, but not even close to as good as the movie.

Billy Bob's portrayal of Lorne Malvo was outstanding.

He was okay. But my comment had to do with character development, not performances. I wouldn't fault Billy Bob for the mediocrity of the first season. It was more the fault of the writers than the performers. He didn't have much to work with which is a shame because he's one of the best when the material is good.

Would you argue that the movies were better in the other two examples given?

I prefer McHales Navy the Movie over the TV show

I also prefer Bewitched movie over the TV show

Thanks to @Mr. Cheese for moving all the posts - hate to make you get on the clock on the weekend, but all these really belonged over here anyway really and we can leave the Rogue One thread for when more info about the movie is known.

No, I would say that Entourage the show and the movie are equally horrid, steaming piles of garbage. I only got through three or four episodes of Daredevil. I would rather watch the movie than any more of the series, but the movie is no great piece of work either.

Daredevil is an excellent show. The movie? Yeah, not so much.

Anyone watching The Path on Hulu? I had semi-high hopes as I'm a sucker for all things cults and I like both Aaron Paul and Michelle Monaghan. I'm 3 episodes in and I could see it going either way at this point honestly. Aaron Paul not as good as he was on BB, but that would be hard to do. The characters don't yet have a ton of depth, so I'm hoping they're just leading us gradually into the full backstory.

It's one of the more promising and interesting shows airing, though, so if you're interested at all I'd check it out.

Haven't checked it out yet, is the whole season available? Or are they releasing episodes over time? I've never hulued.

Nope. You are wrong.

Well half wrong. Movie was complete cluster fuck piece of crap. But I LOVED the show.

Actually I would hardly class the entourage movie as a typical movie. It was more like a extended episode for a finale with every guest character they could jam in it.

It's basically the Real Housewives of Whatever for men. But it was unavoidable when it was originally airing so I saw plenty of it.

Show was a B- up until the Medellin season. From the Medellin subplot thru the final episode it got worse.

Jesus Christ i can't believe i just read 27 pages of semantics

As far as my experience with film and tv go, I've been far more satisfied with television series and far more disappointed with the movies I've seen

I'm three episodes into "The Girlfriend Experience". I must say that I'm really enjoying it. Solid drama, and the acting is solid. Riley Keough is the main character. She's pretty, and can act. Its basically her origin (sorry, to many superhero flicks) story story while juggling a law intern and working as a high end escort.

STARZ released all 13 episodes at once.

A guilty pleasure show of ours is "iZombie". I'm not saying that this is a "good" show or anything. I'm saying that my wife and I enjoy it. Were not usually up to date on it. We stream them whenever we have time. I just watched the Season 2 Finale last night. Holy shit was it good. They amped it up a notch. They didn't kill off any main characters. They did go pretty damn dark imo. Anyone else watch it?
