PerthMike's 2019 Vegas Trip Report (7 Viewers)

Enjoy your trip. You should go down Fremont street if you get the chance. Old school Vegas. When I was there everyone recommended Vic & Anthony’s steakhouse which is in the Golden Nugget. I went and it was brilliant. Like something out of a 70’s mob movie. We all got fillet steak with lobster tail. The service is nothing like you get over here. The waiter practically gave us the lobster and cow’s biographies  :ROFLMAO:

And if you go the Harrah’s on the strip you might see this legend...

Doesn't matter, as most Americans cannot tell the difference between English, Aussie, and South African accents.

Scottish we know though, thanks to Groundskeeper Willie! :)
We’ve all had to change our accents to sound like him... even though nobody in Scotland sounds like that  :ROFLMAO:

I've driven around LA many times.... enough to know I don't want to drive around LA.

For me it'd be worth it to hop a commuter jet to fly the LAX to LAS route and avoid all that.
I'm in the US for 15 nights and I'm keeping the car the whole time, otherwise I would have just flown.

And they'll be the best damned 15 nights of your life! USA USA USA!
I have been walking around with a dumb grin on my face. I've travelled pretty well I think, but I've never felt this excited to be somewhere. It also feels a bit surreal because I've seen so much of America on TV.

Anyone got any good coffee recommendations? I've come to realise that Australia makes the best coffee in the world and that we are now snobs. I couldn't stand it in England recently, so any good recommendation would be appreciated.

I’m just picturing a cross between Crocodile Dundee and Steve Irwin running around The Strip. Probably more Irwin with his excitement. Never saw the episode but apparently there was one where he went to NYC and my friends said it’s the best episode.

And go with Red Bull over coffee.

Hahaha I am english and grew up 30 mins out of London for 19 years. Pretty far from crocodile Dundee, but I've definitely got some Steve Irwin level enthusiasm this morning.

Even the 7:15am fire alarm in my hotel couldn't slow my excitement

Vesta coffee north of the strip looks to be a decent roaster.

I’ve heard how good Australia’s coffee game is, but I guarantee SF will give it a run for its money. When you’re up this way Saint Frank, Ritual and Sightglass are must-hit coffee spots in the City.

Ok I might check that out thanks. The key to a good coffee joint imo is that it must be a hole in the wall and it must be run by a complete hipster lol. Probably not expecting that in Vegas, but I'm excited for a good coffee in SF, I haven't had a good one in over a week.

First gym session done. Haven't been in a week so it felt good to get back in and out in a chest session in.

Now I'm off for breakfast. I might check out eggslut

Tried striking up a conversation with the Bally's cage guy, asking noob questions about the way the lists work here, so that he'd feel sorry for me and sell me a mint rack, but it got busy so I gave up. I'll just play there I think and try to get a rack.

Total for my first short wander around, 22 mint condition and about another 8 worth keeping for my set.

Oh and I found a pretty nice conditioned THC 5. I assumed they were mostly RHC now. I just randomly got given 6 in change and 4 were THC.

I'm so tired now from all the flying, that was all I could manage. I woke up at 5am to drive to the airport, and in the timezone I left this morning it's actually 6am right now. Its time to pass out.

Those THC 5s are amazing and pretty rare I think. I have never seen one and played there a fair bit. It looks mint as well. Hang on to any more mint THC 5s you get from Paris.

Have fun!

If you go to Starbucks I recommend getting a cafe Americano no room. It’s expresso and hot water. Tastes much better than their drip when drunk black, which is the proper way to enjoy coffee. If you have to hide the coffee behind a ton of sugar and cream it is not good coffee.

Starbucks is over roasted crap. I don't know if they have Tim Horton's in LVNV, but McDonald's also makes a decent cup of joe.

People never believe me but MacDonald's actually really improved their coffee over the past few years. It is no specialty roaster but it is good coffee IMO.

Philz Coffee in the Bay Area I thought was nice... it's unique.

Hash-Hash-A-Go-Go for breakfast !!!
Reasonably priced and a ton of food for the price!
Hash House a go go

...but yeah, enough food that 1/2 of it is wasted (unless you bring a friend).

Sadly, HH was excellent, when it's only Vegas location was far off strip. The casino locations (Rio included) have all settled down to mediocrity, riding on the original's coattails.

It is still a ton of food, but breakfast and tip runs close to $16 per person. Much better values are available on/around the strip, and much better food at that price-point is available on strip.

One man's opinion. I am not influenced to think something is great just because it gets good reviews on Yelp.
