Plaques in a Cash Game Set? (3 Viewers)

@courage, why would they slow the game down? Never heard that.

Thanks,

B

Just a bit less familiar to handle, you see it in tourneys somewhat. Would be more so in a split pot cash game. They are beautiful though, and make an impression.

wouldn't slow the game down anymore than double board PLO8, lol.

Now I need to get some sample sized to get an idea of what size plaque I want. I guess I should start a separate thread to start working up a design (I have zero creativity).

For those who have plaques, are your players more likely to bet them (intimidation factor) or hoard them?

I'm in cash games. When we have an unusual high-stakes token - oversize or plaque or statuette - it's generally not used for intimidation other than usual big-stack tactics. Also, I've never seen more than two or three on the table. Betting the plaque becomes shorthand for "I'm putting you all-in," because the plaque is generally much more than the average stack.

Also, there aren't generally enough of them to really "hoard." But whoever is getting ahead tends to end up with them... because others are forced to make change.

That, however, is a real effect - someone who has a plaque tends to start playing differently when they're down to the plaque and a low number of chips. They seem to tighten up when they fear they'll have to break the plaque soon. But I've seen similar behavior from the same people when they get close to having a single high-denom chip.

We usually have 4-6 re buys on average (sometimes up to 10 rebuys pending on the participants). If I give three plaques per rebuy (20.00 value per plaque) we could still end up with a dozen minimum each game.

you have fucking custom statuettes? raising the bar here. next time i'm at bergman's, i expect the below to be the $500 denom statuettes.

No, no custom statuettes... they weren't technically poker gear, but were pressed into service. Some people are happy to have their art become practical. They were actually stone bears. Called them "Money Bearers."

Haven't done that in a long time - sets grew so the need went away - but I remember it fondly, and it makes me want plaques.

Or maybe I just want plaques and am looking for an excuse...

Love your bulldog, by the way.

As with several above, I think plaques for high denoms, relative to the stakes of the game, are a great idea. Certainly now that customs are available in a wide variety of styles and price points.

Is there anyone out there who makes plaques? I don't mean companies, but pcf members who do it.. custom plaques.
I'm trying to remember who did this from old ct days.

I saw something like this today:

I wonder if a "simulated 3D" 2D image (like a street scene or a river at a 3/4 angle) on both faces is possible within the typical dimensions of a plaque.

Courage is right. I had a massive set of PNYs and got 160 Matsui Plaques. At WCB V, we used them for the tourney. It wasn't a problem until the final few people, when you were primarily using plaques. They are more difficult to cut and stack than chips. Also if you design them, you want to make sure you can distinguish the denoms (I had $1000 and $5000) from the side. The Matsui plaques looked magnificent, but when Josh and k9dr were duking it out heads up, I thought it was cumbersome.

If you were going to do plaques, you should try to get samples. The Matsuis were slick, but seemed to stick together like with static cling. I haven't played with ceramic plaques, but you might get samples to feel them. Some sets (like the PNY) have to have a solution for the higher denominations, so it was a necessary evil.

I use $20 plaque's as rebuys in a cash game. Seldom do we have more than 6 or 8 on the table at the end of the night. It's nice because it limits the number of chips on the table which makes it easier for chip stacking and counting. Plaques also serve as a "status" symbol for the folks that have earned them. Lastly, they are unique in relationship to everything else on the table and that is just damn cool! In addition to the Lucky Dog plaques I have them for Circus City and Gran Casino.

cool. I will be looking to obtain some plaques for my ceramic Deja tourney set. But I want large plaques. Like 6x3" ones.

If anyone knows a good source for something like this, let me know please

Oldwest Poker Supplies made this dealer plaque for my Montmartre set. I made a half dozen in orange and a half dozen in the light blue pictured here.

thanks

But I remember an older post on big blue about someone making plastic plaques..? or maybe not plastic but something like it. home made for sure and they came out pretty decent.

Yeah, somebody made plaques using thermoplastic resin. Don't recall who it was, but you might find it via search.

From searching, it appears that quicksilver made some acrylic ones that are pretty decent and the ones I was thinking about were from Comp56. Is he around here?? Calling comp56

Don't know what to compliment first... CHIPS CARDS PLAQUES WALL SETS NICE!

I guess the finish on the walls could use a little work...
