Hello, PCF world!

I have a few questions regarding the way to handle a player leaving early from tournaments. It hasn’t happened to us yet, but in the case where someone has to leave early for any reason or the game has to suddenly end without finishing, what is the procedure in these cases? What happens to the players chips? Obviously their buy in is forfeited, but do the chips just get sent to the bank?

If the game has to end early for some reason what’s the procedure of operation? Does the payout go to the chip leaders?

Just curious.

If they paid and both the chips and money are in the player pool then his chips should stay and continue to get blinded down until they are gone.
Yup.
Had this happen with a first time player a few weeks ago. She tried to give her stack to a busted player (denied). Her stack made the money for last paid place.

I think this is important because @5Bet said “obviously their buyin is forfeited” and that is not the traditional rule. Generally speaking, the chip stack stays in place, is blinded off, and if that stack finishes in the money, that player is owed their prize money.

As the host, you can make whatever rules you want (as long as they’re posted ahead of time.) and there are plenty of threads that address this issue. The traditional rule doesn’t sit well with a lot of people because when an abandoned stack continues to post blinds, it gives an advantage to the player on the right - he’s essentially getting two buttons per orbit, and one of those is with dead money in the middle. So you need to decide for yourself how you want to deal with this in the future.

But as I said above, the typical rule is that the stack stays on the table, it continues to pay blinds, the hand is folded as soon as it’s dealt, and that stack owner is eligible for prize money.

I think this happened once in a league I used to play in.

The player announced all in blind before the next hand was dealt. He was mid/low stacked and we were still within the rebuy period. Worked out OK in that particular instance.

(no cheating or angle concerns in this instance)

I particularly enjoy it when a clever player bucks that and attacks the free blind. Interesting dynamic.
Exactly my thoughts. It’s an interesting dynamic. And if it gives an advantage to the player on the right, well that’s just another kind of variance. Poker (and especially tournament poker) is all about adapting to changing circumstances.
