Been playing a lot of .20/.40 PLO online. I consider it a good practice and a good way to get in some volume as I learn the game. Still have a lot to learn and looking for advice, so there are going to be a few posts here of big hands I played.

.20/.40 PLO Online (6max)
V1 is very loose player who is on a heater (70% VPIP) - sitting on 256.83
V2 is super wide, and aggressive, 60%ish VPIP I think, and I have him tagged as a maniac - we played with him last night when he took a huge pot off of us with the sucker end of a straight (we had the top end of the wrap, he caught the bottom end). Today he's on mega tilt as he keeps getting "sucked out on" by another player at the table who is running very hot. - sitting on 40

Hero is BTN with :8c::9c::tc::jh: - sitting on 41.72

UTG V1 min-raise .80 (the afformentioned player who is running very hot)
HJ V2 raise to 3
Hero ??

This is a premium hand that absolutely smashes UTG and HJ ranges (UTG was playing 70%+ VPIP)...right?

At the same token, we know HJ is a maniac on tilt and UTG is likely to call with any 4 cards...

Do we raise or call?

Pretty hand, and it does well post-flop, but there are a lot of flops that leave it dead in the water too. This is a nice hand to play for stacks preflop, but only if you know you're playing for stacks. Otherwise, it does better if you see a relatively cheap flop and then get your money in with a high-equity monster draw or made nut straight with redraws.

Just call, but no problem shoving if someone reraises enough to make that possible. (What are stacks, BTW?)

If you 4-bet and you get re-raised by villain, you're almost committed to any flop that you hit something. Granted it's incredibly easy to play against this AAxx or maybe KKxx hand (I doubt even maniacs are going to re-raise you without one of those preflop) if you flop a pair plus draw. If you brick everything, you can fold, but if the flop comes J72 or Q83, a maniac is going to rip it in with his AWESOME OVERPAIR POWER. Then it's time to play for stacks and hope your equity lands.

Or you can opt to call with position and see what develops on the flop. Provided you land the same flops as mentioned before, you can dictate a majority of the money going in now, rather than sticking in money preflop and bricking hard.

Added stacks, thanks for the reminder

I would just flat that hand because you have position on 2 maniacs who are most likely stacking off on way to many flops. You don't really want to bloat the pot with a marginal hand like yours. Yeah it looks pretty but it really isn't that good of a hand. Out of position this hand should even be a fold according to solvers

I respectfully am wondering what hands you're wanting to play in PLO in position if you're not finding JT98 to be good enough.

I'm not a fan of middle connectors and one flush draw. The only way your getting to the nuts is a straight flush or Broadway.

I find these kind of hands get you in more trouble than what they're worth

JT98 is definitaly a good enough hand to play in position. But JT98 with 3 cards of the same suit really isn't that good of a hand. Your draws are very often not to the nuts or dominated. This hand looks allot better then it is. But I agree with calling this hand in position vs 2 very loose players.

Thanks for the feedback all, gonna leave it a little bit longer before continuing with the rest of the hand!

Just kidding, let's get to the interesting streets...

Hero flats mostly hoping that the UTG comes along with a flat as well. Yes hand flops really well but isn't necessarily one I would want to GII preflop with.

Agreed that I would prefer to be double suited or at least suited to the J, but even a rainbow J high rundown seems worthy of a call here in mind given position.

Hero is BTN with :8c::9c::tc::jh: - sitting on 41.72

Pre:
UTG V1 min-raise .80
HJ V2 raise to 3
Hero BTN with :8c::9c::tc::jh: flats
UTG V1 folds

Flop :th::4h::8d: pot 7.40
V2 leads pot 7.40
Hero??

Top two pair, open ender, blockers to both top and middle sets, and we have one blocker to flushes? Let's get that money in with a re-pot and be happy!

Pot and get the rest of it in whenever possible. The two hearts kinda suck, but this is the kind of flop that makes this hand worth playing.

I didn't even consider the heart blocker, good thing to point out. I also don't think I considered that I was blocking top/mid set although I did of course realize I had 2pair and a nice wrap.

I agree with you guys, under normal circumstances I would probably just raise it up here, but given that I have villain tagged as quite agro (and on tilt), we elect to call, expecting another bet from him on the turn.

Pre:
UTG V1 min-raise .80
HJ V2 raise to 3
Hero BTN with :8c::9c::tc::jh: flats
UTG V1 folds

Flop :th::4h::8d: pot 7.40
V2 leads pot 7.40
Hero calls

Turn :th::4h::8d::ks: pot 22.20
V2 leads pot 22.20
Hero ??

Does this card change Hero's decision to pile the money in? It's not my favorite card, now a Q brings us the sucker straight...I think we still rate to have the best hand here, but maybe no longer the best straight draw.

This is a good example of why you raise the flop. You want to get the money in when the going is goodest.

You could get it all in here, or you could fold. You may well be beaten now. I think it's a small decision either way on this turn.
