Which game offers the greatest positional advantage to the button - O8, Omaha, or hold'em ? This is a 5/5 spread limit with a $50, $75, or $100 max bet respectively.

So far at this game, it is not uncommon for an unraised flop to be seen by 6 or 7 players. A pre flop raise to $25 or $35 will still be seen by 3 or 4 players. A pre flop raise to $50 or $75 might get it heads up. Bluffing is difficult as the max bet is often too small relative to the pot size. Value betting and check raising have been profitable so far for the same reason.

I am trying to decide which game I should call on the button.

I vote Omaha, assuming your skill level is comparable to that in holdem or O8. Omaha has higher varaince that the other options. There might be players weaker on Omaha than holdem, but the reverse of that isn't nearly so likely.

I'd encourage Hero to be liberal with his preflop bets when he actually has a better than average hand. Do not be that guy who raises his button because he has the button. But don't be the crusty old nut peddler either. Hero is getting money in the pot when he has +EV (which isn't going to be a massive +EV in a multi-way Omaha pot) and helping people be willing to pay $75/ street when Hero is ahead post flop.

I'd suggest a limited C-bet - bet when ahead or drawing fat. Don't bet otherwise without very good cause. Yes, a table full of sharks could exploit that. Hero isn't at that table, don't c-bet bluff with air because it is a waste of time and money.

Agree with DrStrange - position advantage is greatest in the game with the biggest variance - the advantage comes from having more knowledge before having to act, and the crazier the game, the more valuable it is to know what's going on before getting involved.

If, for some weird reason, you had players who play conservatively at Omaha but bet wild at Texas Hold'em, that might shift the balance a little, but generally speaking, Texas Hold'em pretty much has the lowest variance and the fewest unknowns.

I would do O8 personally. Just as much variance if not more so than PLO, plus you have a bunch of people probably coming in with good low hands and nothing else. You can probably blow them off pots with all high cards on occasion.

I have mostly been calling Omaha so far mostly to avoid a chopped pot. The problem I have been having is the max buy in to start is $300, so if I raise pre flop to $75, I am almost pot committed. What I have been doing is raising to $25 or $35 to build a pot that I can still get away from if I whiff the flop. @DrStrange is correct, c-betting when I miss is like lighting money on fire.

Yes, I agree about making smaller preflop raises. Hero isn't thinning the field, he is getting the average caller to make a $2 - $5 mistake and build a pot large enough that someone will pay off $200 over three streets with second best.
