Possible Pilfered Poker Chips - What to do? (3 Viewers)

Happy to say that all Capital Room chips are accounted for - had 2 brief periods when a $1 went missing while playing OFCP with @inca911 and @Poker Zombie, but turned up later in another rack (after counting them all out twice). The other instance was a BCC greek mold bounty chip that mysteriously turned back up once a few people were put on the alert  :ROFLMAO: Not sure on the story there but no missing chips. Had a blast opening them up with @Jeff and @Ben and then later christening them with late-night circus games!

Very pleased that the chips are all accounted for in the end! I was on edge the rest of the weekend because of that. There was one point during the Main Event where I had to move a player (don't remember who, doesn't matter) to balance tables. They stood up and started to do what looked like putting a handful of chips into their pocket. I snapped pretty hard at them (also, putting a chip into your pocket is expressly forbidden by TDA rules). Turns out that they were just making a shirt-hammock to carry the chips.

Point is, I apologize to whoever I snapped at (but seriously, we had racks freaking everywhere). I would have been less aggressive normally, but while I don't think anyone at a meet-up would intentionally nab a chip, we have all pocketed chips from casinos and the action may just be an honest, not-thinking, accident.

All ended well, but it was pretty scary at one point.

Action was on the player, he looked at his cards, and went into a trance-like state -- almost like his brain was frozen and trying to reboot.

Actually took almost two minutes for us to realize something was wrong, because it looked like he was comsidering what to do with the hand. I finally looked up and realized he was not right, called his name and touched his arm with no response.

Called his girlfrIend and 911, turns out that he has them every so often and is fine after about five-ten minutes with no memory of it happening.

Paramedics showed up anyway (apparently can't cancel a 911 call), checked him out while still seated at the poker table. Blood pressure was a tad high, but was otherwise fine and coherent by the time they left.

He then raised with AQ and everybody folded. :D

We had a similar incident 2 months ago, where one of our players just "checked out" in the middle of a hand. I have been on plenty of these calls before while working, so strangely, I was the only one not pushing for 911. I took her vitals, ruled out a stroke, and discussed options with her husband. She returned to normal pretty quickly, though her BP remained elevated. They left the tournament early, and we blinded off their stacks per TDA rules.

Long story short - getting old sucks.

Yeah, a stroke was our first concern, until we contacted the girlfriend and learned of his history. He started rubbing his arm after a minute or two, but was otherwise unresponsive for around five minutes.... eventually answering a question as if nothing had happened. Spooky.

Weirdest thing is that he's been playing with our monthly group for about three years, and with another player (present) in a different game for almost ten years, and it's never happened at the poker table before.

I'm adding this to my arsenal. It should work great vs you since you always give me credit for a hand.

Chris, I'd still be able to soul read you, even if you were wearing a Burka and wrap-around shades. I know all about the seizure false tells believe me, that's only at like level 26.

Not doubting your assessment, but I've never had a reason to put chips in my pocket at a home game. Casino, sure. Home game? Never.
I had a couple 25c chips 'disappear'. It was because we were playing cash, then went to tournament. Instead of cashing out 50 cents, the player stuck them in his pocket, played in the tournament and then forgot about them when he went back to cash game. He apologized and brought them back the next game. He has no chip collecting interest and he certainly wasn't doing it for the money. Honest oversight. Shit happens.

"Oh I tranced out again? Yeah I do that sometimes. Scares the shit out of people. No. No I don't ever tell folks beforehand."

I think I have 1 or 2 Mapes 1s that you can have Jayson. It's not like I need them since I have all my fake mapes now.
@H|Q ...I'm still looking for one for my sample set, but I guess after I find the second one, my sample set will be complete...following the example of Mike, the first Mapes $1 I find is yours, Harley.

But I'll be damned if I'm getting you a Mapes hundo....;)

Very sorry to hear this. I've had chips taken before. One was a PCA chip at a Chiptalk meetup, but there were a lot of non-chippers there, so it was probably one of them. always tell my guests I'm missing a chip and they are usually found in pockets. I see no reason why you cannot let your guests know you are missing 4 chips. It will let the asshole know you know , at the very least.

And this thread is why I never host. Well, that and the fact that I live in a tiny apartment with no poker table. And I have a four-month-old. And I go to bed early.

Dammit. I need to host.

But once I did haul my entire Riverside set to @bergs, and after a marathon all night session with sweet sweet Riverside goodness, I stumbled off to sleep at like 5am while the table was still going. I woke up at midday and went downstairs. I found that everyone was gone and the room was in disarray and...and...every last one of my Riversides were sitting pretty in the middle of the table. MA/NH crowd is good people.

Except for All Sweat Everything™...fuck that guy.
