Playing around with ideas using the Black Cat inlay recently made available elsewhere by @Toby using a limited Halloween-inspired color pallet.
Frac is jack-o-lantern inspired, $1 obviously candy corn, the $5 I'm finding a bit underwhelming but trying to go for a cat whisker thing, and then $20 and $100 are just using the limited pallet colors with more advanced spot patterns. /shrug

So, here is the latest simple 4 chip cash set I'm working on, somewhat of a Cali set (orange/yellowish 5), but a black 20.. I'm in the south, I'll just call it a southern set.

Inlays are obviously tritues to those of my Jack Cincy set, green/grey frac is new, Blue $1 is a semi tribute to the Cincy 2 (no lavender or peach though, wanted some difference), Arc Yellow 5 is a must as it's my favorite color CPC offers (and I think it looks cool with the set). And the $20 is tribute to the secondary 100s we never get the chance to felt up lol, but no butterscotch on the black)

I've been working for 18 months on a casino used leaded THC relabel set. Honestly, I'm not even close to getting all the chips I need. And what's worse, the chips I do have and that I like are all different barrel heights. I think it's hopeless and I'm about to either give up, or shelve it for a while.

Then yesterday there was an ad for a very interesting set of CPC (or older ASM) chips that would give me most of a turnkey set. I thought on it long and hard. But... I don't love the mold pattern, they're not leaded, and the colors, while they would work, they are not ideal. So I think it finally hit me. If I'm going to switch over from THC to CPC, the only way to do it is a custom set. I already have most of the work done on the inlay, since I was going to relabel all the THC chips anyway.

I'm not posting the inlay here. I'll save that for a personal thread. But I spent a couple of hours last night on the spots and colors. Thought I would throw it up here and get some feedback / criticism... :rolleyes:

These are not brand new designs. I've thought about doing CPC before so these already have some prior ideas incorporated in them.

Top row represents a nickel, quarter, and two different $1 chips.
The nickel reminds me of one of my favorite all-time chips - The Binions WSOP T25. Also, since the set will not have a $25 chip, why not use green for a frac? I love quarter pie fracs, and my favorite colors for a 25 cent chip are blue and pink. So why not one with both? For the $1 - sorry boys, but I don't like white as a base color, and I definitely don't like the standard CPC "sorta" white. Blue is already taken, and I have another set I like with a grey $1. The darker one almost gets me into the "black dollar" club, but the lighter one might work better since most of my base colors are dark in this set.

Bottom row is the $5, a $20 (I'm club $20) a $100, and just for fun, why not design a $500 that will NEVER get put into play? :ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:
I'm a traditionalist when it comes to $5s. Strong preference for red. Happy to get feedback on which red is best, but based on the design tool, I like the look of the Mandarin Red. Lavender and Arc Yellow are my preferred colors for a $20, so this one gets some of both. And like with the $5, I'm also traditional about my $100 being black. Since most of my spot patterns are in threes, I went with six on the hundo. The six spot colors are the base colors for each of the lower denomination chips, including both colors from the quarter pie. For the $500 I think I like yellow. Since I won't make many (if any) of them, spot level is unimportant. This one seems like a reasonable progression from the $20.

All right guys, let 'er rip! FYI, other than the hundo, and that little splash of DG Tiger on the $500, no CPC colors have been duplicated.

Retro red is going to be your more traditional red. You might try that as a base instead of mandarin for the $5

Moved your post here. I do have a CPC color set, but I'm not sure how old it is, and I hear the colors can change a bit over time. Before sinking $4-5K into a forever set, I was definitely going to buy a current color set. The other problem with the set I have now is it was not labeled. I've gone through and organized it how I "think" it should be, but not 100% certain I have it right. Maybe we can meet up and compare sets. At the very least I can then label mine. Thinking of just writing on them with a couple different colors of Sharpies.

Even if you'll share the inlay later, can you let us know the theme ? Will be it old school ?

The gray $1 does not add enough contrast I think while it your lineup it should be the star of the show. The spots you selected for it are great though.

What I did after designing my own set was to sleep on it for literally months and then since I still liked it, pulled the trigger. Take your time to make it perfect !

Given what I said about colors I do and don't like, and colors not used yet, what suggestions do you have for the dollar chip?
 
Here's the set with a white $1. I agree that it solves any dirty stack issues. But I just hate the way CPC white looks after a few years when the brass flakes develop verdigris.

Yellow $1???

I moved the charcoal $1 to the end, and I'll obviously have to re-do the $500. That's no big deal.

Have a look at the chip DB and search for chips in the colours you are looking at. For example Imperial blue looks good with light blue, DG peach/arc yellow/pink, dark blue/blurple and white.

David, I just really think your hundo and $500 are both a huge mess which throws off the entire set. Not cohesive to anything at all. Have you considered going back Dollar and white hundo? Also, IMHO, going from nickel to $500 really limits what you can do. Maybe something like this up to $100? Then the $500 who knows. That’s a lot of base colors to deal with.

Thanks. I really appreciate all your ideas & suggestions. But like I was saying, I really hate CPC white. I might still use it on a $1 (probably not) but I'm definitely not putting on my hundo. Red $5 ( I changed it to retro red - thanks!) and black hundo are two absolutes in this set. The $500 chip is just playing around and intentionally making something that's at a high level. It may or may not even get made. Think of it like your $88 chip. But it does need to be cool, so not sure why you say it's a mess. Please be more specific. Do you mean you don't like that spot pattern? Or just the color combos? It obviously can't stay yellow if I stick with a yellow $1. I did another one below with light blue.

Regarding the $1 - no black dollar because the hundo is going to be black. Charcoal or grey is OK, as long as I don't think there's a dirty stack issue. But honestly, I think the more I look at it, the more I like the yellow dollar. And I know LOT's of you here don't like tri-moons. But I do. In a set where almost everything is in threes, there is going to be a tri-moon somewhere. The $1 makes the most sense to me.

What about the hundo is a mess? Black base (a given) and 6 colors that match the base colors of all the lower denoms. In my head it makes sense.

Regarding the wide range of denoms - I occasionally play nickel games with family. The nickel is just a fun chip to have, and I like the Binions colors. I'll only order one rack of them. They're not a workhorse chip by any means. Expectation is that most games I host will be in the range from $0.25/0.25 to $.50/$1, with a good possibility of moving up to $1/$2 and some point. $1/$3, & $2/4 or $2/5 are not out of the question. I'll get a couple racks of quarters, a buttload of $1s and $5s, a rack of $20s and a few barrels of $100s. This will be a forever set, so I would rather have all the denoms I might need and order everything at once. Like I said, the $500 is just a fun capstone chip. If I eventually play $2/5, it's not outside the realm that a couple could get into play. I want to have ONE awesome set that will last me the rest of my life. Designing 2-3 new sets a year is not something I'm ever going to do, as much as I love all your theme sets. Hell, my most used set now is still my PGI 8Vs that were the first chips I ever bought. With a cheap DIY label that I designed and printed myself.

Much better with the canary $1. I have a canary $1 in my Cantura Cantina set. I love it.

I use nickels too so no issue with that. My point was with so many denoms it’s tough to make a cohesive set. With your $100 and $500 they’re just way too busy for my taste. They just look messy. Sometimes less is more IMHO.

As for the white that’s why I suggested bright white instead of regular white. No flake issues for you to worry about. I personally love the flakes depending on the theme. Gives it an old school look.

I’d be really curious to see the inlay. I just feel like half of your chips give an old school vibe and half of them give clown show vibe. Just doesn’t flow at all to me.

I like both vibes BTW, just not together
 
I think by "mess" what we're trying to say is it's hard for you to get the whole set looking cohesive. Forget the nickel and 500 as they're just a distraction and focus on the frac through 100.

I would also consider adjacent chips to alternate between brighter and darker. I think the yellow 1 is a good idea. Put blurple on your frac to make it darker and you have a nice progression.

I wanted to do a clown chip also - ended up doing it as a rebuy chip after some good advice that it doesn't really belong in a regular lineup.

Thanks. It's a process. I'm not ordering them tomorrow. I'll let all these suggestions sink in and try some new versions. The plan is still to use the same Stevie Ray Vaughan inlay that I've been working on with J5 since early last year. The ones I was going to put on the set that started out all Paulson 312s. But I can't find chips that I like and that have a consistent size. There are pics in another thread. I think you hated it too! :ROFL: :ROFLMAO:
