Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned tracking number? I know I do.

Seems like there’s a new trend out there; the “Pre-Shipment” label.

Great, you’re printing a label from home, saving postage, whatever…

When I get a “Pre” label in place of a tracking number, that tells me that my package is still potentially days away from being at a post office.

I care not about your efficiency, your shortcuts, or your hacks. I want you to get to the post office, hand my chips to someone and then send me a tracking number. I’ll know it’s moving toward me and I’ll also know how long it took you to get to the PO.

When I sell, I get the funds, pack if I haven’t already, and the chips are in the hands of a USPS employee within 24 hours, usually less. Then I send the tracking number from the PO’s parking lot.

Even better, I live 10 minutes from our international airport whose post office is open 7 days a week and until 9pm M-F.

Do better.

Only that it's vaguely related, I have an eBay win that has been "tracking number provided" for three weeks

I reached out to the seller recently and had a response to the effect of "thanks for bringing this to my attention... looks like this was shipped a few weeks ago...". Fast forward a few days, and no motion on the tracking.

I give them to the start of the week to see motion on the tracking before I call B.S. and escalate this.

You make the effort to create a tracking number but go no further? If that's the best you can do... that's game over in my book.

Sorry you are dealing with your issue @merkong ,. I hope it's resolved soon, but I fear we're both on the hook for what we've had "shipped" to us.

P.S. - I hope for your sake it was eBay where the "buyer reigns supreme" and we're both able to get back what we paid and not someone here on the group.

It’s not an issue as much as it’s a little irritating. The PCF community is head and shoulders above the rest of mankind in so many ways.

This new trend of “print and sit” is only minimally different in terms of arrivals etc but enough when compared to what I consider my due diligence in being quick and getting items legitimately into the system that I decided to vent.

Carry on and let me know when my items leave your possession.

So this really isn’t about when you’re getting the tracking number, but someone not getting to the post office fast enough?
When I prepare a package, the tracking is provided and I can copy and paste it to a PM to the buyer. Not sure why that’s a problem. However, if I sit on it for 2 days, that is an issue.

Yes, when I print a label at home, I always send it to whomever I’m shipping it to. But I also tell them exactly when I’m going to drop the package off at the post office and then do that when I say I am going to do it. If there are ever any delays on that part, I’ll let them know that as well.

Sounds like this is more of a communication problem than a tracking number provision problem.

Sometimes I don’t even send them a tracking number.

Then I’ll get a pm that says “umm did you ever get a chance to ship those yet?”
And I can reply “surprise surprise…it’s out for delivery”
Seems this is the way to do it (at least for some buyers).

Also, shipping within 24h...? sorry, these are private transactions and not businesses. People have lives and it's not always convenient to go to the post office the next day.

I don’t know that there’s a hard and fast as to how quickly someone should get to the post office. I get it. There’s this thing called life.

What I am surmising is that sending the pre-tracking number isn’t necessarily a motivator to get people to hustle to the post office because they’ve already sent the tracking number and they might think “well at this point when I get there I get there.” I know it’s not everybody it’s just an observation everybody can do with it what they’d like.

Hey listen, don’t get your undies in a bunch about 24 hours. I already disclosed that I get it. There’s this thing called life. There’s also this thing called common courtesy. So first off, make some effort, and secondly, if you wanna go above and beyond like some sellers do, myself included, get the package to the mailbox promptly.

And furthermore, if I send someone $500 or $600 you don’t think I should expect some degree of promptness? Get real.

Next time you go to buy something off craigslist, you pay the guy and see how you feel when he says “hey you can swing back in a few few days. I’ll give you a call and let you know what works for me.”

I’m thinking that’s not gonna work for you, sir.

Yeah, I think I paid for the tracking number too but if it works for you. lol

I knew I would light some hair on fire.

It’s a legitimate issue with me, but I was also bored.

And sitting here with two pre-shipment tracking orders, waiting for one still to get to the post office.

Does this rant need its own thread?

I generally agree with the premise (printed label is not the same as tracking info. after delivered to the PO), but this seems to be something to address with the specific seller(s) - even if only through the feedback process.

Or you could’ve made a post in the “Things that are BS” or “Controversial Opinions” threads.

Ok; carry on then.

I had to make sure I didn't owe you a package, Lately I've been guilty of delayed shipping, plenty of good reasons(excuses) but I probably should be ready to ship if I post chips for sale.

I'm trying to be real here.
And, for what it's worth, I do try to ship as quickly as possible (and if it is not the next day, I do tell when I can expect it to be done).

“Dibs pending you agreeing to my shipping terms and deadlines. I’ll have my lawyers draw up the paperwork”
That’s funny but you know that when you dibs you are agreeing to the sellers terms and relying on their good naturedness as far as packing well and shipping promptly.

Usually fine.

Love watching people trip out over what they know they subscribe to just the same as me.

lol. No you good.

It’s a valid point and we all know but and large PCF is awesome…

It’s just this new trend of pre-shipment.

I go tracking everyday only to see it’s still “pre”.

Boo.

One trend that sticks out after 1000ish transactions - the people who care the most on shipping are usually situations with the lowest cost packages.

I just know when I’m cleaning out drawers and giving stuff away free or selling a cheap barrel, I better get that out instantly.

You sure better… lol

Probably noobs but we’ve all been there. Seriously though, if I spend a significant amount of dough I wouldn’t mind getting stuff moving my way as soon as possible as reasonably possible…

I do recall getting some free BarrieJ castaways when I was new here and I was like “what’s with this guy? Get me my freebies already!!” lol

Ok; carry on then.
I did lament over where to thread this but in reality I don’t see it as all that controversial.

Pay for something, expect seller to make an at least halfhearted effort to send stuff.

No real controversy there.

I just like quick (honest) communication…I always give out the tracking as soon as I print the label, but let the buyer know when to expect it at the post office.

What I hate is buying chips split from a set…waiting a week while the chips are being sorted or cherry picked…or even seeing them being used in “one last game”…then seeing shipping info.

I don’t work from home. I can’t get to the P.O. During the day sometimes. Not everyone has a job that they can fudge around all day either. I could print the tracking number at night, send it, and let you know it’s coming… or just be silent and not let you know until I’ve been able to get to the P.O. Either way, someone isn’t going to like it. Meh, I’ll continue my way and not really GAF.

Not everyone has that luxury.

Same.

I do try to drop them off the next day but depends on the drop off time vs collection time, it may not be in the system until day 2:
Day 0: I pack it up, send out the tracking number.
Day 1: I drop them off at drop off boxes in the morning and it's in the system when picked up.
Day 2: I drop them off on day 1 AFTER collection time, then it's in the system on day 2.

Everyone is zeroing in on different stuff…

I mentioned my situation which is obviously not to say it’s not everyone’s.

Give me the tracking when you finally get to the post office…

PCF Public Court has heard the case, and we rule in favor of anyone but OP.
