Not Mine PSA: Barrington table $149 at Walmart ($169 if you want the lighted version) (5 Viewers)

We have the ability to influence markets. :ROFLMAO:

Wish my kids were little again. Poker table for Daddy and a big giant box for them to play in for Christmas. Also comes with a styrofoam surf board.

After a quick inspection, the padding is definitely thicker on the rail and playing surface. My old Barrington's cloth is a little wiggly and this one is pretty firm. With a topper, I think the cushioning will be perfect. Rail is a big upgrade. Old rail gets loose in spots.

I find the cup holders usable. Solo cup for beer fits fine and for whiskey I use rock glasses that come with holiday bourbon box packages. The bigger glasses like Woodford don't fit, but ones like the Knob Creek are a perfect fit. I also put out tray tables to the side for those with larger cups / coffee / etc.

So it looks like the LED version has deeper cup holders. I don’t have a good ruler on me but looks about a 1/2 cm or so lol.

I find it a bit crazy that Barrington uses plywood (except for the rail) for $150 and Triton uses mdf for $1500. I know the other quality points are much better with Triton, but they are gouging at least not using plywood at that price point.

In the case of a table base, I think I prefer MDF to a low-grade plywood. I know it's more crumbly structurally when used with screws, etc,...but as a table base, it works well. Very flat and smooth, and resists warping better than a cheaper plywood.
But MDF is HEAVY.

What about mdf getting water spilled on it or being stored at high humidity? I keep my tables in the garage sometimes and it gets humid. I'm far from an expert, but have read some things on it. Many differences depending on what you're building.

I noticed some posts from 2019 where the Barrington was ~ 20 lbs heavier than what I'm seeing now. Did they switch from MDF to plywood? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but am curious on this topic.

I also saw a pic of some screws in the Triton getting very loose over time. That could big a problem long term, especially for the money spent on it. A friend's cheap table made of mdf was stored in his basement. He didn't look at it for a couple of years and when he was cleaning out the basement, it was badly warped due to the dampness I suspect. It bowed upward and was unplayable.

Do they make a specific storage bag or do you have a recommendation?

Hengme Poker Table Bag, Dustproof Poker Table Cover for Folding Poker Table https://a.co/d/aEIylZl

I would go with this bag. It is the larger of the two brands of bags. It is cheaper and has a bigger opening, making it easier to slide the table into it.

Would the straps be strong enough to hold the table?
The Hengme straps are adjustable and feel a bit cheaper than the Global Storage bag. They would probably work just fine but I would feel more comfortable with the Global bag since the straps are reinforced and there is no chance that the strap will slip since it can't be adjusted. I loaned my Hengme bag to @TravNasty at the moment though so i can't look at it and give you a 100% answer.

I guess you’re right about humidity being bad for MDF, but I have to think it’s not great for plywood either. And you’re definitely right about the screws, but can you build it with bolts instead of screws? I’m not sure; I’ve never built a table.
But I just crawled under my gorilla table to check - the thing is so heavy, I kinda thought it might be MDF. But nope, it’s plywood. Must be the thick stuff.

Ordering one of these as well. Mostly just to keep dirt off of it in the garage.

shit i might buy one just to swap the rails and resell

*edit* fuck it, i went for it lol. how much should i list the frankentable for?

**double edit** maybe i should just re-felt the new one and sell the old one w/ speedcloth. probably be able to break even.

PSA - the rail swap is not one-for-one and not worth the trouble IMO. i put both tables back together and now need to decide which one to keep. i do not feel like refelting again, but those custom toppers do look quite nice. or i can just truck the new one to walmart for a refund tomorrow morning.

all that said, the quality of the new table is far better than the old ones across the board. $150 is an absolute steal.

Damnit, i got slowplayed here. Thought it was $149.00 + tax, but in reality it's $149.00 + tax, + table topper ($125), + new cup holders (IDK price).

Still not a bad price, but forgot I'm a PCFer now, and the additions never end  :ROFLMAO:
What cup holders?

Looking at the pictures, I wonder iff the LED version actually does include the heavier hardware and thicker base like the premium table with the brown rail.
What makes me think that is the crossbar on the legs…it’s the wide one in the LED version, which matches the premium table.

My barrington didn't even make it through the first night before being spilled on. One guy dumped over his beer and complained the cup holders suck. Another lady dumped half a bottle of wine right in ghe center if the table. That was her 3rd bottle. I'm glad it's plywood or it would have been junk already.

My new Barrington LED table came this afternoon. First, I agree that the table was very well packaged. Basically double boxed with additional cardboard, padding, and Styrofoam. I am very impressed so far! The QC on the table seems to far exceed the old versions of Barrington tables. The improvements that the LED table have include sturdier legs, adjustable tension on the support wire underneath, the new style matte finished rail, slightly deeper cup holders, better padding and felt than the older table.

The first thing I tested was pitching the cards. They pitch just fine from one end to the other and back the other way. Sometimes you can get a slight dip or bump in the center of some Barringtons that will stop the cards from gliding all the way across the table from end to end. This table was perfect with no imperfections in the center.

Next I laid out a couple classic Barrington sized toppers on the table. The LED versions of Barrington tables do have a slightly larger playing surface than standard classic tables. But I kind of think it looks great with a standard size topper with the lights on. It leaves just enough space to make a cool lighted ring around the table.

I mentioned the slight improvement in the cup holders earlier. It is not a massive improvement but they are deep enough now to fit solo cup style cups snuggly. I think that the slightly deeper cup holders will actually help a decent amount with spills compared to the old version of the cup holders.

The legs do seem to be made of a bit sturdier metal as well. I am happy with this improvement. The table feels really sturdy. I know some players lean heavy on the tables during play and I will take any bit of reinforcement I can get.

Here are a few more random photos.

I have already ordered some battery packs, rechargeable batteries, and a dimmer switch to go along with the table. Those should be here in the next day or two hopefully.

I am really impressed with this table. I feel that the slight increase in price over the classic is definitely worth it for the LED version of this table. It is a bit heavier than the classic but I am not going to be transporting this table too often. The classic would be a bit easier to move and transport due to 20 lbs of less weight. I have even thought about selling my older classic style Barrington and picking up another one of these. I am already on thinner ice with the wife until my other table sells so I probably shouldn't push my luck unless I could sell all my other tables first. :ROFLMAO:

Long story short, I love this table and highly recommend it!!!! You can't go wrong at this price!

Great info. If you put the topper up to the edge does it block the light? Or would a larger topper negate the lights, is what I’m wondering?

I think the lights would still make it through ok. There is a bit of an overhang on the rails and they are raised up enough that i think the light should still make it through just fine.
